I realized that the typical way of extracting blemishes is likely to create scarring. Squeezing a comedone or a deep cyst only creates further infection and inflammation. I watched videos of dermatological extractions and realized that they tend to gently and superficially nick the skin, cutting it open and then squeezing. The skin has multiple layers and often acne becomes trapped underneath and cannot easily be pushed out. This is also the case with scars. Acne can form underneath the scars and cannot easily be pushed out because the scar itself is of a thicker consistency and texture. Ive been extracting by nicking the imperfections with a tweezer to slice some of the superficial layers of skin and afterwards squeezing. Once the pus is squeezed out the positive signs of healing are an almost immediate lack of pain and swelling...which means you got everything out. Its also much easier for the skin to heal when there is an even longitudinal superficial cut which hasnt had massive pressure applied to it (I find that its much easier to squeeze everything out when the skin has been nicked, meaning I have to use much less pressure).
Ever since I started to extract using this method I havent experienced many recurrent infections in the wounds. With traditional picking I would pick and then watch the spot increase in size, become red, and take much longer to heal....in some instances it would become reinfected.
What are some of your methods of extraction? What works best for you?
