I've been picking my skin nearly everywhere I can find a pimple and scabs since I was 13 years old and I am now 15 years old. I am working on stopping but its hard my friends don't understand, I don't know why I tryed to tell one friend today she tould my other friend and they laughed at me. I'm so happy that everyone on this site gets me and knows how I feel. We all have the same or similar problems. I am a girl that wants to stop right now.

I do the same. Anywhere there's a scab or imperfection I pick at it. My friends don't understand and just judge me. They tell me "Oh you can stop, you just don't want to!" And my mom does the same. She tells me that "It's nothing bad. Just stop picking." Not very much help. I can't remember if this was a dream or not, but someone called me emo. Wait.......yeah that wasn't a dream. It was real. I found this site a few months ago and I was on it 24/7 when I found it, but since this is via the Internet, it feels distant. I need a true friend who understands. A good friend of mine has trich, but we never talk anymore. I am also female, but I've tried quitting. Didnt work at all. I honestly hope you can stop. I'm too far gone for anyone to help. -Jasmine

Omg your online right now so am I. How old are you? Where are you from? I'm from Australia. I will be your friend. We will get through this together. My mum tells me if you love your skin you will stop. She doesn't understand my problem. Her skin is clear and looks so nice.

Yes I'm online. Hello! I'm from Europe but I live in America. I'm happy to have a friend! And I'm glad we will get through this! No one but each other understands our problems. Non-dermas (as I call them...) will never understand. I envy everyone who has clear skin. Also, am I the only one who (please don't judge) if I see someone else with a scab, I want to pick it. I feel like that's beyond and I need mental help.

Wow America I would love to go there one day all my famous idols with clear skin that I look up to live there. Have you met a celebrity there? You are so lucky. My background is half kinda Europe. No, you do not need mental help when I see someones scab I want to pick it too. If they have a pimple I want to get rid of it. I want them to get rid of it themselves but their was a time where I wanted to it for them but now I just want them to get rid of their imperfection because I feel weird looking at it and thinking how could they not pick that. We are very close in age only one year apart your 13 years old nearly 14 years old and I am 15 years old right? and we are both girls.

Actually, I'm 14 now. My birthday was a month and a half ago. I haven't really met anyone super famous... I've met a couple locally famous people, like radio djs, but not many others. Also, the pimple thing on other people. Sometimes I honestly have to hold myself back from pouncing on them and picking their face. Well, maybe not THAT extreme. But it can get pretty bad. Then, I feel bad for staring at their face...

First of all thank you for being my new friend. All my friends have amazing skin except for me which makes me upset. I really have to control myself from picking. I cry a lot about it and it really gets to me. I want to have skin that is soft, smooth and not scarred and look like all the other girls at my school. They get all the boys because of it. Can you tell me all the places you pick please? I pick on my chest, face, neck, back, legs and arms. I have some scars. My skin isn't that bad at the moment and its getting better except for the scars and scabs which are not going away. Do you have acne? I don't, I just pick my skin.

Your welcome. I love making new friends. My friends have better skin than me. Not amazing, but still better. My dermatillomania has made me cry countless times. Also, when I'm around my crush, I hide my hands (I bit my nails and chew the skin around them) but my face I usually don't mind. I pick almost everywhere. Arms, legs, stomach, chest, neck, face, hairline, feet, hands, and I have recently had a dry scalp so I scratch open my head as well. Not fun. I have so much acne. Well, let me rephrase that. If I didn't pick, I'd have so much acne. Now it's just acne scabs and acne scars. My scabs have scarred over, so my face is the best it'll be. Anyway, it's 3:10 am here. I need sleep. So, goodnight! Talk to you tomorrow!

I'm 20 and have picked my cuticles and skin around my nails for as long as I can remember. But when I was 16 I started picking the skin on my upper legs and use needles / tweezers to dig. I used to bite my nails really low until they bled when I was about 9 but I managed to stop that 'habit' that's how I know the skin picking is different, I can't seem to break the routine like I did with my nails. At least now we know that it is a real illness and now I have a name for it I feel more confident that I can beat it and I'm not just the girl with 'gross' hands. Good luck, you are so lucky to have found this information early in your journey, you will always have support here =)
