How does the program work?
We’ll match you with an expert therapist who specializes in treating skin picking. Your therapist will create a personalized treatment plan using proven behavioral techniques. You’ll communicate through secure text and voice messaging and, depending on your country and insurance coverage, may also have access to face-to-face video sessions (if eligible). Alongside therapy, you’ll use practical tools to build new behaviors, self-monitor, and strengthen coping skills. Optional online support groups are also available for added guidance and encouragement.
Is the program effective for treating skin picking?
Yes. The SkinPick program is rooted in evidence-based treatment and was developed by leading clinicians with deep expertise in skin picking and related disorders. It has been trusted by over 6,000 people worldwide and is supported by the largest peer-reviewed study on skin picking treatment. 91% of clients who complete the main program modules report improvement.
Who are the therapists and what are their qualifications?
Therapists on SkinPick are licensed professionals—psychologists, marriage and family therapists, counselors, and clinical social workers—each with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Every therapist on our platform is a dermatillomania specialist, trained in our proprietary methodology to provide focused, effective care. Most have worked with hundreds of dermatillomania clients throughout their careers, offering a level of expertise that’s rare to find elsewhere.
How do I communicate with the therapist?
You’ll communicate with your therapist through our secure online platform using text and voice messages. You can reach out anytime, no scheduling needed. Your therapist will respond within 24 hours on weekdays. Depending on your country and insurance coverage, you may also have access to face-to-face video sessions (if eligible).
Can I combine this program with treatment I’m already receiving from my doctor or therapist?
Yes. You can use our program alongside other treatments. We recommend letting your current provider know, so they can support you more effectively and help integrate what you’re learning into your overall treatment plan.
Do you prescribe or recommend medications?
We do not directly prescribe or recommend medication. However, our therapists may refer you to qualified psychiatrists experienced in treating skin picking and related conditions.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary based on your location and care path. If you’re eligible for insurance-covered care, the average copay is under $14 when starting therapy.
For self-pay, pricing typically ranges from USD $65–$90 per week (billed every 4 weeks), depending on your location, preferences, and therapist availability. If cost is a concern, contact us — we’re here to help.
Do you accept insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans in the U.S. and operate in all 50 states through our in-house therapists and clinical delivery partners.
For those who are not covered, we offer approachable self-pay options, with pricing designed to be similar to what many people typically pay through copays and deductibles. We also accept FSA/HSA cards.
How long will I need to use the program?
It depends on your individual needs. Some people feel ready to finish after a few weeks, while others prefer ongoing support for longer. You can take the time you need and end the program whenever it feels right for you.
Can I pause the program and come back to it later?
Yes. You can cancel at any time and return whenever you're ready. When you come back, we’ll reconnect you with your therapist and restore your progress.
Is my information private and secure?
Yes. Your privacy and safety are our top priority. We use secure, encrypted systems and follow strict data protection standards. Everything you share with your therapist is confidential and protected by client–therapist privilege. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.
Can I stay anonymous?
It depends on your care path. If you use insurance-covered face-to-face video therapy, full identity details are required. If you use our self-pay online programs, you can stay anonymous by using a nickname and not sharing your full name.
In all cases, we maintain strict privacy and security standards. For safety, we may request emergency contact details and any additional information required for clinical care.
What are the age requirements?
Personal Program is available for ages 14 and up. Program for Parents is recommended when the child is 13 or younger. For ages 14–15 we suggest enrolling in both programs in parallel (with a 50% discount for the parent program). Parental consent is required for anyone under 18.
My child struggles with skin picking – is this program right for them?
Yes, with some conditions. Teens aged 16 and above can join the Personal Program directly. For children 13 or younger, we recommend the Parent Program, where you’ll learn how to best support your child. For ages 14–15, we suggest that both parent and child join their respective programs for the best results (with a 50% discount on the parent program).
