Family that picks

My mom and I had a bunch of talks this week about skin picking. We both pick at our scabs and skin as a way to deal with stress. Learning about what we each struggle with has helped in our quest for understanding. My arms mostly look horrible because I pick at the scabs over and over again for months. Now that it is summer they look terrible. My mom and I are beginning a journey for a cure and some relief!

Wow, I can really relate to this. Picking is also genetic in my family. My mom and brother are big time pickers, and my grandfather was a picker. Just like with addiction, I believe there is a huuuuge genetic component with picking.

im a skin picker, and i learned it from my mom. my sister picks at her arms. i pick the worst of any of them cause i have ocd. mom and sis seem to be better able to control it. i do no think its genetic. i think its a learned coping mechanism. we learn from out parents so it seems genetic, when its really learned. nature vs nurture.

When I was little I remember watching my mom do it and now I do it as well. When I think about it now, I actually do it in the same place and manner that i saw her do it.
