fed up with my skin picking disorder

Hello Everyone, I am a 32 year old man, who is searching for a fast cure to a long term disease. What brought me here today is the embarrassment of getting fingerprinted for a security officer guard card training experience today. I have been peeling the skin from just my fingers, no biting or scratching. Only peeling. This is not a case of depression or anxiety. I do it for comfort and bordem and lost of focus. I can peel my fingers when driving my car, its so bad. I started peeling when I was in the third grade, 8 yrs old. and I thought I would be able to stop when I was entering my 20's. I remember promising myself that I would and didnt. I am married, so its not that embarrassing, but to the public I still hide my fingers. I peel at the corners of my fingertip, where the meat is thick and then work my way around the finger, trying to stay on one layer.lol. Its not funny at all to me though it feels good doing it. The only fingers that are not peeled at this moment are my left and right ring fingers. My two index fingers are peeled from the nail on back to the knuckle. My left middle fore hand finger is peeled from the nail on back to the middle of the bend and the knuckle. I have a more picked skin on my palm side. All but my ring fingers are peeled some and others are peeled bad. I can peel my palm side down to the second brown lines on my fingers. To make matters worse I am african american. Which means these infictions are very obvious. I am here to find a cure and some help. I went to the doctors and will most likely go back but I feel talking with others who share the same or similar problem may be better right now. I hope we all can cure our painful addictions very soon. Thanks for reading , D

I understand totally how you are feeling fed up with this. I too pick at my fingers. But its really my pointers and my middle fingers. I usually attack at my face and arms more. Its really frustrating. I notice at night it gets pretty bad too. Have you ever tried to keep bandages on your fingers? i been doing that lately. It helps. Good luck to you.

Hello, I did try wearing bandages but I know the fingers need air for the skin to grow. However that is a way to prevent me from picking at my fingers. Thanks. You said you pick at your face, that has to be so obvious right? are you not worried about the facial scars? and them being directly noticed?. The arms have tougher surfaces, but i still dont see how that can be done. But I do believe you. Are you good with wearing lotion or baby oil, try that it make help by making the skin harder to peel. and help stop the peeling. Good Luck to you too

hello i used to do something similar, when i was a child i used to like threading a sewing needle through the hard skin on my palm side and make a tunnel through it, then rip the tunnel open and peel off all the hard skin. i dont do it no more i guess i moved on to more satisfying areas like the kp on my upper arms.

Hi, Im 26 years old and have been dealing with skin peeling my whole life... my fingers are now callised when i dont peel them after a day or so -which is my favorite time to peel away.. it sounds sick but.. its the truth.. I have been peeling my skin ever since I was a toddler. My mother said i would lose concentration and off and on she would find me peeling my skin. My parents tried stopping me by wacking my hands as i peeled, my mother applied the nasty tasting clear polish to my nails but i ended up peeling that off, as well as my skin. i dont know why but it has always been something comforting to me... its comforting while im peeling- i enjoy seeing the progress as i peel... i get to a point where i grab a pair of tweezers and make sure i get underneath the sides of the nail, as well as the little crack underneath the cuticle... i also peel the cuticle right after i get the skin underneath it... im sorry if i am going too much into detail but i just want to let this out- and let others know that if you do this... you are not alone... i do not peel past my first knuckle- i only stay near the nail area, like i said before i enjoy peeling as well as the progress i have made as i peel but after im finished... my fingers hurt so bad... sometimes it hurts to even type... my fingers often feel as if they are on fire- more often then not i have too hide my fingers or suck on them because they are always bleeding or there is dry blood on them... i peel most when under stress, but truth fully i peel simply because im alive. when im happy- i peel, when im sad- i peel... My habit is extremely compulsive and im becoming weary of it... my girffriend gave me a promise ring and she about died when sliding it on my finger... she knew i peeled the skin off my fingers but not to that extent.. that particular day my fingers were bloody, the wounds were extremely fresh... i am very pleased to know that there are others out there who suffer from the same exact habit... talking about this with others- and simply giving my story as well is comforting to me... i truly hope this habit can be kicked to the curb... one day.. p.s. i too am able to drive and peel at the same time... i peel anytime- most of the time i drop all that i am doing to peel and pick... im ashamed to admit this but i know it is necessary.
