im 20 and ive been eating my finger skin all my life.

i'm 20 and i'm happily married and i have a 6 1/2 month old and i'm pregnant again. but all my life, i mean...since i can remember. i have always bitten and eatin the skin off my fingers, i used to bite my nails too but i stopped that. and i eat the skin on my lips sometimes and even scabs when i get them, i used to cut myself just to get scabs so i could pick them. my husband helped me stop that. the biggest thing i do now is just bite my fingers. and i like doing it, its weird, and my fingers look horrible but it makes me feel better. but i'm afraid of future problems with the skin on my fingers, cuz i've been doing it for years. and i haven't found a way to stop. even strong will doesn't help.

Hi, I went on this site about 6 months ago and was stunned to see how many people did the exact same thing as myself. I went to a psychologist to try and stop and she told me I'd probably never stop biting my fingers. I couldn't accept that and I didn't go back. I found a CURE!!!! It's been over 2 moths and I haven't biten. My fingers are healed and my compulsion dissolved within 2 days. Have you ever heard of energy medicine or energy psychology? Emotional Freedom Technique or E.F.T. is what dissolved my compulsion. All in all it took 15 minutes and I haven't had the urge to do it since. I read on this site a tip that some girl gave about using a nail file and filing the skin on your fingers in the direction it grows. I started doing that. It made it much easier but really it wasn't hard at all. I want everyone to try this. I also healed an old knee injury, have been losing weight AND have been treating my husbands fibromyalgia so he is free of pain. This is no joke. This works. I am now studying to become an Eden Energy Medicine Practitioner and hope to spread these techniques as far as I can. So, I can't explain it in writing but if you go to youtube and search EFT for compulsive behaviors you will find a wealth of information. The idea is that you tap on certain accupuncture points on the body while saying out loud phrases to reset your subconscious. The way I describe it is that my conscious brain and subconscious brain finally had the same intention and the electromagnetic pulse from the tapping is what made that connection. PLEASE go and help yourself. It will be the best thing you could ever do. I suffered from this disorder for 34 years and in two days it was GONE! POOF! I had so much guilt and shame attached to this compulsion and it rippled into the rest of my life. A weight has been lifted. I never thought I would see my hands like this. I am a new person. It seems very silly at first but keep an open mind and do it anyway. It's not the type of thing you have to believe in for it to work. If you do it it will work. Peace and Love Cara

I used to bite my fingernails and chew my finger ends all the time until I was about 17. I realised that getting to eat the nail and skin was the reward, so I decided that if I spat out the nail or bit of skin I wouldn't get the reward. This worked like magic. As soon as I was no longer getting the reward the desire to carry on chewing and biting went away almost immediately. It took a bit of willpower but it worked. Try it. I'm 55 by the way and I haven't bitten them since.

ok...so i eat the skin off my knuckle. this has been going on for like 21 years...my middle finger looks rather disgusting as the skin on its knuckle has hardened..its dry.. it looks like a dome ..now i know by removing this , ill lose the skin thats supposed to secure my bone(knuckle) . i am lucky that this didnt happen on my wedding finger as the ring would most def not go in.. i cant even show my left hand as there is a HUGE dome...i would like to know.. if i stop..will my skin fix itself. will i be able to place a rind on my middle finger again.. self esteem issues i tell yah

I just wanted to comment that I've picked at my finger skin since I can remember I use my index finger to pick at my thumbs. So much that my skin is almost duscored from surrounding skin bc of the continuous re healing. The only thing that helps is having acrylic nails. When my nails are long it's hard to pick. Sounds like a weird remedy but it works. I still find myself trying to do it but it's much harder. It's been a few months and my thumbs look great. I've never had much a problem chewing At the skin but I'd recvomend getting some acrylic nails

Hiya all well im over 60 years of age and still bite my nails till they hurt, so my granddaughter taught herself to do acrylic nails and does mine now so that has stopped me, I used to bit my knuckles as well and they looked disgusting, so to get the knuckles looking a bit better I used a nail file on the knuckles to take off the hard skin and rubbed moisturiser on them and they are now fine, my nails are growing slowly with the acrylics but at least they look a bit better and I don't have to hide my hands now so let's hope that helps them togrow

At 12, I pick at/eat my finger skin, too. Usually by nibbling them after a shower when the skin comes off very easily on the side of the finger. I think it might have started with a hangnail or something.

well,i'm 19 and i too have been eating my fingers for as long as i remember. I did manage to stop this awful habit two years ago and i succeeded-thanks to constant nail polishing and hair pulling(another thing i'm addicted to).but just few weeks earlier, i ws studying for an important exam and unconsciously started biting again.now, my fingers are peeled off and bleeding again.i feel so frustrated but i've managed to stop this habit before,so i'm sure i'll be able to do it again. Good luck to everyone out there who's trying to stop biting.

Ugh, I do thesame thing... :( I'm only 12 and yet I always chew off the skin around my nails (mostly my thumbs but other fingers too) and eat it. I try to chew gum to stop myself, but I'm not allowed to chew gum in school, and school is where I do it the most. My mom is always pissed at me because it looks so ugly, but I can't help it. So... What I've done to try to stop (it's worked so far) is to put hand sanitizer on ALL THE TIME. That way it tastes nasty and you don't want to do it. I also chew gum whenever I can. I'm doing everything possible so that I can stop. Hope this helps u too. :D
