wounds are HEALING and scars are FADING------> PLEASE READ!!!!!

I've mentioned calamine lotion on this site many times before but I want to scream it out for everyone to hear and to understand that IT REALLY DOES WORK! My skin has seriously never looked better. Being that I'm still in active recovery from CSP, I relapsed a bit yesterday and went to town on my chin. I was so angry with myself but instead of spiraling out of control, I just took a deep breath, washed my face with my antibacterial face wash and applied a thick layer of calamine lotion all over my chin and let it be. This morning, the wounds were already healing over and the swelling and inflamation had subsided immensely! After washing my face in the shower, I applied another thick layer and left it on for about 4 hours. When I washed it off, they again looked even better than when I first woke up this morning. My hopes are that they will be completely healed within the next few days... I will keep everyone posted. My chin aside, the rest of my skin looks INCREDIBLE! I've been using calamine lotion consistenly for the past month and the results are AMAZING! My scars have faded about 50% and my skin actually looks NORMAL. I don't feel so ashamed walking around without makeup on in front of my husband and kids, and when I am wearing makeup, my complexion has never looked better. To achieve the same results, you have to be consistent and use it every night. After washing my face at night, I apply a THIN layer (apply a thicker layer ONLY on the areas where wounds are present) all over my face and leave it on overnight. In the morning I wash my face and apply a zinc-based moisturizer before applying my makeup and then go about my day. I've done this for a month straight and I can honestly say that I am a believer. Calamine lotion has helped with healing my self-inflicted wounds, fading my scars, and evening out my overall skin tone. The best part about it is that it's dirt cheap. I spent $1.44USD on ONE bottle! PLEASE give this a try... I promise you won't regret it!

After reading all the comments about calamine on here I went and bought some today- both the lotion (which is very thin, almost like a toner- like water) and a cream which has glycerol too. Just put it on. Fingers crossed my results are as good as yours :) So pleased your skin is looking so great- must be a fantastic feeling :) Thanks for the advice.

emily1234, I was so happy to read that you are going to give the calamine lotion a try :) The one I use is the HUMCO brand because it has fewer ingredients than other name brands. I've found that products with fewer ingredients don't irritate my skin so I try to be mindful of that. Active Ingredients are 8% Calamine and 8% Zinc Oxide; Inactive Ingredients are Bentonite Magma, Calcium Hydroxide, Glycerin, and Purified Water. I truly hope that it works for you and that you achieve the same results I have - consistency is key!

I put calamine on for the first time yesterday and then proceeded to pick whilst it was on. I am so flipping angry with myself for not leaving it alone. There is one patch beneath my right eye that i have damaged so much i am terrified of what is gonna be left behind. It has healed a few times but because of the brown stain it leaves i just keep picking. Yesterday it was actually looking quite good but when i put the calamine on i flippin attacked it again and i now hate myself. Its looking purple again and i'm feeling desperate. I have reapplied the calamine and manged to leave it alone today but its driving me mad as the compulsion to pick is strong. I will be 39 this year and am terrified that my skin won't heal like it used to do as i have been very lucky really considering the damage i have caused, but this has got to be the worst yet and being older it might not go. I am riddled with fear and have seriously been considering ending my life. I'm sorry for dumping all this on you guys but i don't know what to do. I am currently in therapy AGAIN and being weaned off meds as they stopped working so i'm doing all i can in a practical sense but emotionally i feel a wreck.

Quick update- my second day of application of calamine. So far so good- this stuff is amazing! The most amazing thing is how it has reduced redness drastically. It also makes the abrasions seem more smooth and kind of 'calm'. Definitely on their way to healing- a couple more applications and I think they'll be practically gone! Thanks so much newperspective :D I recommend anyone to try calamine lotion....it certainly worked for me!

I'm so happy to see that calamine lotion worked for you too! :) I hope others on this site try it out for themselves and see the difference this stuff really does make to the overall redness, swelling, and inflammation of freshly picked wounds, and wounds that are already scabbed over and healing, alike. Calamine lotion truly speeds up the healing process and reduces the appearance of scarring if used consistently! Good luck everyone! My thoughts and prayers are with you all! XO

Another update! It has been over two weeks since I've been using calamine lotion. When I first started using it, I had about five or six wounds on my face from a horrible bout of picking. They are almost completely healed! As in, my skin is pretty much blemish free. Calamine is great- it reduces redness A LOT, and acts as a drying agent without making your skin feel rough or crusty (ergh). It kind of smooths everything out, and feels very calming. I would recommend anyone to try it. Here in the UK mine only cost 88p for a 200ml bottle which is unreal. Won't hurt to try at least! Of course though, as with any product, it won't cure or heal dermatillomania and it's effects. But it will help the healing process a lot, and, importantly for me I know, it helps with the appearance of the wounds which is something that in itself makes me pick. If I have a bad looking wound I will pick it to make it 'flat' so I can put make up on it. I've found that calamine quickens the healing so I don't have to resort to that. It doesn't smell either, at all. Thank you newperspective for the suggestion- it has really helped me and I'll be sure to always have a bottle in my cupboard! Do you use it everyday, even if your skin is clear? I wonder whether it would be useful to put all over the skin in the evening as part of a daily routine. Thanks again- and good luck to anyone giving it a go! As with anything, I'm sure it won't work for everyone but judging by the comments above it seems likely it will! Emily

Thank you so much for your second update emily1234! I'm so happy that the calamine lotion is continuing to work for you. I do use it every night. Before bed, I wash my face and apply a thin layer all over. I do this to prevent future breakouts from surfacing and to lighten the scarring on my face. I've noticed that it really helps my overall complexion when I use it every night and keeps my skin calm and my overall skin tone even and smooth. I hope this helps and thank you again for continuing to post your positive results and feedback for everyone to read! Yours truly, newperspective

Hi, how is ur skin now? After using calamine lotion? I have some blotchy, red, purplish, browning, scars, like sore, burn scars, I picked off some dark scabs, that occurred because i used wart remover/w salicylic 17%, i think if I left it alone it probably wouldn't have scarred? I had a salicylic peel done by an aesthician, and that never occurred, even though they say to not pick off scabs, anyways, I started using calamine just to cover the mess, can't stand looking @ it ugh! So , I thought this might be good for acne, but now scarring? So, how long do u think it will be for results to be seen? It has been about a week since, I did this, also, I tried turmeric powder, they say this is good for acne n scars? I am also lathering up on tretinion gel. Have you tried that? Do you think using the both will get rid of these ugly scars n acne? Let me know, Signed, scrappyface

It's definitely worth a shot! Calamine lotion is SUPER cheap, so there's really no harm in trying it. Anytime I've picked on or around my lip area, Carmex moisrurizing lip balm has always worked for me. YES!!!! Calamine lotion really DOES help fade acne scars!!! :) Please give it a try - I've said this before, consistency is key. I've been using it every night for over a month now and I've seen a drastic change in the lightening of my scars. So, if you're willing to try it, just be sure to use it on a daily or nightly basis to see the results you're looking for. You need to give it at least 30 days of continual use before you start seeing changes in the lightening and overall evening out of your skin tone. Let us know if you should decide to try it and whether or not it works for you. :)

Hi There, After reading your post I decided to join this site and go buy some calamine lotion. My going away party for work is tomorrow and I have scabs on my face. I know they won't be gone, but I hope they will be better. (My coworkers are somewhat used to seeing me this way, nobody says anything, but they know) . I am so glad that your skin is better, and I hope the same for myself and everyone on this site. Thank you for your kind advice.
