GULP! Going to the dermatologist tomorrow........

I am going to the dermatologist tomorrow and I am going to come clean about my skin picking on my arms. I have managed to stay pretty pick free the last 2 months with only 2 very minor relapses but I still have pustules on my arms that I fear may be an infection (I really hope it isn't infected but I would not be surprised if it is). I feel both nervous and excited to keep working to overcome my problem and clear my skin. I will post the outcome tomorrow when I get back. Wish me luck!!

Hope you get on ok telling your Dermatologist!Im thinking about seeing someone myself,I go over what I am going to say to them constantly!I feel I want to tell them that Im not embarrassed to discuss having the disorder but more concerned that I will not be understood, taken seriously, laughed at ,shoo'd off because they may not know much about this disorder,or may not be an understanding Dermatologist.I know if that happens I will walk out of the consultation room feeling worse than when I went in,so im really nervous about making that first step. Yeh lets us know how you get on!!

Ok, so I told and they actually treated me like I was not crazy which was really good. The only thing that they said was that I have KP which is weird because I didn't have it before I started picking but I got glytone body wash and lotion si I will give it a shot!! I should have asked it my picking could have caused the KP but I forgot. I also got a full skin check where they look at the skin everywhere on your body which is a good idea since I live in Florida and run outside. Overall I recommend that all of us pickers get into a doctor its not so bad once you are there. I feel a lot better now that I have told someone and I don't know if this treatment will work for me but I will post results soon!

that's wonderful that your visit went well and you disclosed your practices. that alone is therapeutic ! do let us know how the glytone body was and lotion works for you. if you think it's worth it, add it to the tips and products topic! all the best to you !!

That's great news, glad it went well for you,I can imagine you feel better for telling someone ,who actually listened and didnt think you were crazy!A full skin check sounds good,as Im nearing 40 my skin has sprung some real weird things on my whole body in the last few years, want to find out what they all are,so might ask for them to check everything.Infact I have had this like cyst near my temple ,thats too deep under the skins surface for me to get....although Ive bloody tried,3 times! It feels as hard as a pebble and can been seen very clearly and looks like a spot to most people,I need to ask a dermatologist if it can be cut out,not good a thing to have for a skin picker!!Hope the treament works for you ,definately keep us updated!

Great news! Keep us updated. :) I have a question/need advice. I've come to the point of realising I feel absolutely hopeless fighting this on my own now. I do need to speak to someone who can help me. I've only ever had pretty bad experiences with dermatologists though. Im too scared about the thought of going to a doctor since they may not have experties in this area and may think I'm well, just crazy. I was thinking of seeing a psychologist? what do you think is best?

i would think a psychologist would be the best health professional to consult if you feel you need assistance with addressing your behaviours and thought processes regarding this disorder in order to overcome it. a psychologist is trained in these areas. all the best to you.

I agree, a psychologist would be the best person to talk to. Maybe they can recommend a dermatologist who is familiar with CSP to help you along with your treatment. It feels like a weight has been lifted just telling someone though and I waited until I was 2 months pick free to see the dermatologist so that I could prove to myself that I was serious about getting better. I figured out what my trigger is (stress) and have made steps to alleviate it by working out and eating better. Never think that you are hopeless because you are not you just need a little help and who doesn't sometimes??
