Cause

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site, and I pick just about everything but my scalp. I've never thought of it as a condition until I came across this place this evening. I'm curious what people think is the cause of their picking habits, because I find that lots of literature pinpoints emotional/mental problems as a stimulus, but I am a pretty happy person with no big problems in my life. Does anyone do this and have no idea why, other than the fact that it's irresistible?

Hi! I'm also a very happy and emotionally stable person and I don't know why I pick. Picking itself ruined my self-confidence as a teenager and up to my early-mid-twenties. Now I'm happily married and have a great job, but I still pick. I used to think it was because of my being abused by a friend when I was about 10, but that has been resolved and I have no bad feelings about it, and besides, I later realised that I stated picking long before that when I was just a todler. So I don't know where it's coming from. I have great parents, but they were very strict when I was young. Maybe that had an infulence? I really don't have the answer.
