I can't afford to go to a therapist, but I was wondering if anyone who HAS been to therapy wouldn't mind posting some of the things they've learned either about the cause, or how to stop the unconscious picking, I do it both on purpose and without even noticing it, and I'm really trying to understand my behaviour better. I've started to hate it so much that I get panic attacks when I do realise I'm doing it but I can't stop... Sigh. I'm a mess.
