I began picking at my scalp for a lil over 6 months, I don't understand why.

At first, I thought that it was my shampoo that would make me pick at my scalp but with time I realized that my scalp didn't actually itch at all. Eventually, I would catch myself picking at a specific spot on my scalp. In some cases I'd find some blood under my nail, (sorry if it sounds a bit disgusting). Other times if i just feel a little scap, I will pick at it until my arm actually tires out and get a headache concentrating so hard. I am really begginning to worry about what might be happening to me. Can anyone help me or atleast give me some assurance that maybe this is something that will go away?

There's no assurance that it will go away. Unfortunately once u get into the habit of picking, the urge will always be with u no matter ur self control. Its like smoking. Its a lifelong habit. What u do need to realize is that picking has serious consequences. My fingertips are permanently scarred from it and my nails have permanent ridges and bumps due to all the damage I've done over the years. I guess I can live with it, but what I can't live with would be bald spots. That, unfortunately is the direction ur headed if do not find a way to control ur urges. I can't relate since my picking habit is not where urs is, but I can tell u that the more u pick ur scalp, the more damage ur doing to ur hair. The results will be gradual, but eventually permanent to where the hair folicle grows and will not grow hair in particular places. What I like to do is redirect my urge into something else. I'm a mom of 2 with a busy busy life so there are a number of things I do. Sometimes I will plan a party or event. Even if not within my means. I will write it all down on paper, then browse the internet for the items I will have, the invites, party favors, down to the toothpicks in the hordourves lol. Or I will examine my body or clothes or house and set goals for the things I want to change, products I want to try etc. Etc. I will set a timer for 15 minutes and clean/pick up etc. Reorganize a stash drawer or place. U get my drift. Redirect ur mind so u don't end up with bald spots. My friend has them for this exact reason and she's only 24 years old. Let me know how ur doing :)

Id advise you to get CBT and work very hard at your willpower now to not pick because at 6months it may seem hard to control, but after years it will be even more of a habit and even harder to stop. It wont go away on its own, you have to fight the urge pretty hard.

i do this too, and i've found that taking better care of my scalp helps in that.... i usually mess with my scalp cuz i get embarrased my dandruff, n then if i find any 'scabs' i can't help but try n peel them off. u can wash your scalp w/ apple cider vinegar, and baking soda. only use conditioner below the neck so as to not clog up your pores use a light oil like tea tree oil or peruvian peppertree leaf extract (steep a bag of crushed/chopped leaves in really hot water overnite, then squeeze all the oils out the next morning) to moisturize your scalp to prevent dandruff. {both have antiseptic qualities, although make sure your not allergic} and most important.. let your hair dry completely before putting it up. i've been doing this and my scalp healed.... the couple days i lapsed i got another achy scabby spot on my head.... so i know it does work if your willing to keep up with it haha
