Yeah, I have exactly that! My parents don't seem to understand how hard it is to stop and I feel like I'm embarrassing them when I pick my lips in public or something! I tried telling my friends but of course they couldn't understand! It's so frustrating!

Although, I am much older than you, and a parent myself... I can totally understand how you feel. I think that it is important to reach out for the help. It sounds like you have tried, but aren't being taken seriously. Of course friends don't have all the answers, but at least you are able to tell. Because some people can be cruel... I really think the answer is to directly ask for help from an adult you trust. An aunt, teacher, someone. I'll keep you in my thoughts, and will look for future post.

Aww thanks :) I hope you get better too! :) My mum's said a lot that she's going to take me to see a doctor or psychologist but she never does. It's hard to talk to people about it because you're worried that they'll think it's just a trivial bad habit! Maybe I should see the school counsellor?

I have been very open about my picking (recently) with a friend who is an alcoholic, and one who compulsively overeats to the extreme. Both can relate very well to the urges and the feelings of shame. Its made a big difference having someone to talk to!
