I just want to be able to stop...

I've been picking for years. My skin looks hideous. I've done everything to try and beat this, but it still comes back. My arms, my legs, my scalp, my back...and now it's going to my chest and face. I just want to be able to beat this before I destroy my skin entirely... Can anyone help me with this. I have little to no support here at home. I just want people who understand to tell me that I can do this. I can beat it. That's all.

You can do this. You have all kinds of support here - so many wonderful people whose experiences they are more than willing to share with you. We can, at the very least, support one another. I wish you all the very best, I believe you can do it!! :)

Thank you, Momo. I'm trying my best. I've only made it a week without doing it. I just don't know what else to do. I don't want to lose hope. I'm glad there are people out there who wish for me to be well. And, I wish you the best, as well.

You're doing well already - I can barely make it through a whole day. I'm trying to think of ways to substitute the behaviour with something else. Everyone is different but I find that I have two main times when I do it - sitting on my computer on Facebook (but of course!) and when I'm in the bathroom mirror in the morning getting ready for work. Hilariously enough, my cat only lets me look in the mirror for so long in the morning before she starts crying... the sudden distraction sort of takes me out of that trance (you know what I mean) and lets me think about what I'm doing and how I want to stop so bad. Don't get down on yourself Dermamaniac. A week is very good progress!! If you can stop for a week, you can stop for another week. Just take things a day at a time for now, maybe reward yourself on the days when you don't. Perhaps finding the times when you're prone to it might help you sort of a method of distraction like I happened upon and found effective. I am always here if you want someone to talk to or to share your story with as I'm sure others are. Everyone here is very open and kind and helpful - you aren't alone in this, ever.
