Eating skin around nails

When I clip my nails, I usually clip off some of the seemingly excess skin around the nail and have the bad habit of eating it.Today I had the nasty realization, the click, that I was eating human flesh. I feel like all I need is a bit of self control for this problem, but I imagine it'll spontaneously reemerge some time in the future. I'm wondering if there are any health concerns that could arise from this. Both sanitation wise and dietary.
