I have tried that. I am so bad I swear i look a million times a day just to check if it is more visibal or in high hopes it is gone. Then i swear when i am talking to it they are staring at it. I know i just have to get over it. I did this to myself so i need to learn to live with it.

Hey Soembarassed....I was just wondering---its been about 2 weeks since I initially put all these terrible open wounds on my face, and I THOUGHT that it was getting better, until I completely took the calamine lotion off. I wish they had a make-up that similiar to calamine, thick and able to cover all of these marks....anyways- just curious- did the calamine ALSO help fade the pink fleshy type scars, that are left, when the scab falls off??? I look terrible, and I picked TWO MORE marks below the left side of my lip. They look really purplish and bruised--- where the scabs have fallen off, and the skin is left looking really pink, make-up doesnt stay on those spots well at all- and im just hoping that if I continue to use the calamine today and tomorrow, that by Thursday I MAY see some differences in the scarring??? Do you think im even giving it enough time? The two really big marks on the lower portions of my face, by my chin, on the left and right sides-- they are still scabbed over. Its been 2 weeks- how long did it take for all of your really major marks to go away, or atleast fade, for the most part??? Im just freaking out again, and so sick of looking at my face, when it has no calamine, and no make-up on it, and seeing NOTHING but big, pink fleshy marks all over it. This is absolutely disgusting. I really am considering not goign to work AGAIN this weekend, although I know if I do that, I wont have a job anymore. I already pulled that shit last weekend, because of MY FACE,....I lied and said that I WAS sick. If you can, please share your experience with me, on HOW LONG it took for all the stuff to go away or fade, and if I should continue to use the calamine lotion- or if I should switch to cleansing, and doctoring it with neosporin, to further try and speed up the healing process, and the scabs coming off.

The calamine is helping fade the mark. It really helped my spots dry up and heal. Unfortunetly they healed but i was left with a slight pink mark. My last picking left me with an uneven indented scar. Right now I am using a scar cream to try and even out the area. I would continue to use the calamine as it does help. I also put a light layer on under my makeup to help conceal the spots when they were really red. This actually helped better than concealor. Hope this helps.

Ok...no picking. However I have a question. I have been putting scar cream and bio oil on one of my scars. Little bits of skin are flaking off. Is this good? Does it mean the skin is regenerating and the scar is fading? I really cant tell if it looks better as it is all I can see and I think it looks hideous! What do you all think? Good or bad?
avatar

September 16, 2012

Ugh...no picking for a month! I still hate the way my skin looks!!!
avatar

September 17, 2012

Hi! I am sorry that you are still unhappy with your skin - but you are doing an incredible job of not picking!!! Good for you!!! :) Have you tried the Neutrogena Rapid Clear All-In-One Scrub and cream? I started using them recently and have had great results! Just wanted to suggest these items to you. Take care. :)

September 17, 2012

Soembarrased, It will take longer then a month to get your skin back to a point that your happy with, but Im sure its looking alot better than a month ago. Its going to take time, there is no cream or lotion or speical treament that will fix these problems over night, Its just going to take time, give it the time it needs, your doing great :)

September 17, 2012

I've had the same skin picking disorder, it used to be much worse I still do need help but! I have to recomment retin-a or tretinoin cream. I'm using .025% tretinoin which is the same as the .025% retin-a cream (I've used both) they work miracles, healing, acne, sundamage, EVERYTHING I've. Been using it for 2 months and so far everything is fading, scars from picking too! I still pick at blackheads I have, but I'm getting better. This really is miracle cream, it does wonders.
avatar

September 22, 2012

I am currently using tretinoin cream. I have been using it for a week. My skin now has about 10 little bumps which i hope go away fast before i pick them to death. Very tempting they are but as they are very tiny i have been resisting!! I have gone 30+ days with no major picking ... Which means picking that has not lead to open sores just little picking here and there.
avatar

September 18, 2012

soembarrassed, dont give up ! its hard to see drastic progress when you look at yourself and notice the subtle changes everyday.. maybe you should start taking pictures of your face, like twice a week so you can objectively see how you have healed. even if you arent happy with your skin yet, you are always healing as long as you dont pick.

September 19, 2012

I am wearing a bandaid or two tonight after I opened up a crater in the dead middle of my face. I thought I was on an upswing too, and was avoiding the pitfalls that usually trigger me to pick. I don't know what caused me to rip open this scab today, but it hurt so badly when I finally got to the point where there was bleeding and i just broke down crying from pain inside and out. I slathered it with neosporin and put a bandaid over it to hide it from my fingers and my self confidence. I will be freaking out all day at work tomorrow thinking that's all people will see of me. Fall down one thousand times, get up one thousand and one....

September 19, 2012

You are right all we can do is continue to pick ourselves up and move on. Hang in there! Dont worry abt work...easier said then done...i know...buy stressing abt it only makes you feel worse.
avatar

September 19, 2012

Thank you for the support...it means more than you think. At least when i feel like it's rock bottom for me - I know others on here have been in the same place, same feelings. I recently found a psychologist in my area who works with CSP - very fortunate as I know not all are familiar with it. I need to get up the courage to go and face it officially
avatar

September 19, 2012

The after effect of picking is what gets to me as you have picked and weeks later are still dealing with the remains even though you have no longer picked.

First of all, i send u my love and well wishes, you are a beautiful soul and realizing that will allow you to accept your physical image because your physical being is not where the value is, look at yourself with eyes of love and eternal acceptance. Compliment yourself on your inner qualities, like... " I'm so blessed to be a person of integrity... Or o what a great friend I am!" forgive yourself and anyone else who has hurt you. Let go of the beliefs you have taken on (from society, or your parents or wherever in your life) that do not serve you well. Realign your values with eternal conscienceness,,,,,, Breathe into life the wholeness of yourself, and vision your inner beautiful soul over taking your physical looks and acknowledge that the power of creation exists inside of us all and with the willpower and belief behind it, you can create ANYTHING! ........... So some advice on healing open wounds, scars or scabs I find that EGG WHITES!! WORK THE BEST"........................... You can leave it on as long as u want and even layer more on top of the layer before it after it dries! .................. Also consider doing a face peel like pineapple or papaya enzyme very 3 days to keep the dead skin off of your face. And when the sores start to heal, vitamin e oil or fresh aloe Vera plant. Wash with natural sugar in your face wash (with salycylic acid) it will help exfoliate and soften skin!!!!!!!!!!............. When u start to analyse your skin, STOP! Do something to startle yourself, like clap loudly or splash cold water on ur face. Say NO! I'm perfectly made and I will not give into negative actions against myself!!........... Also check out Hungarian wellness mud. It's great stuff too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...... Always moisturize your skin and use a retinoil cream to help maintain clear skin! And sunscreen is vital! I wish u success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In honor of the light inside of us all from the same source, May peace engulf your soul, msmelissa

I wish i would get to a point where i am happy and comfortable with my skin. I am not happy wearing makeup it just feels gross...and i am even more uncomfortable not wearing makeup...ugh.

September 22, 2012

Hi Soembarrassed, Just take things one day at a time, every time you resist the urge to pick, you're one step closer. I know how you feel. I wish I could get to a point where I could just spend a few minutes on my makeup in the morning...not an hour just trying to conceal my sores/scars. Hang in there!

Hmm...I know the exact feeling. I guess the more we keep trying the closer we will become one day to people that do not depend on foundation. X
avatar

September 23, 2012

I hope so!!! I would love to be able to get up on any given day and not have to spend an hour+ trying to get my makeup just right!! My goals: 1. Continue no picking 2. Even out skin tone 3. Fade scars 4. No makeup or very minimal makeup
avatar

September 23, 2012

Ugh....trentinon cream = dry skin! Made one spot i had dry and peel yuck just what i didnt want to happen!!!!
avatar

September 24, 2012

Seriously....So I somehow scratched myself on the chin while I was sleeping the other night. So I have not picked and now I have a scratch that makes it look like I picked. WTH! Just what I need. GRRRRRR! So I cut all my nails off as that will be the end of that!
avatar

September 24, 2012

good plan ! i file my nails down as much as i can, like every other day. it helps a lot !
avatar

September 24, 2012

Lol...I have to cut mine off so I dont do damage in my sleep. Bad enough during waking hours now I get marks while sleeping! So not right!
avatar

September 26, 2012

So my scratch does not look to bad....it is healing....but it may be a little infected. I am leaving it alone - but dang it is hard I want to pick the scab off as I think it looks hideous. BUT I have reminded myself that it will look a whole lot worse if I mess with it....so far so good. Not sure how long I will be able to keep this up....we will see.
avatar

September 26, 2012

Hey! Keep positive! You're doing a great job! :) You CAN keep it up, it's tough but you can do it!! :)
avatar

September 26, 2012

Thanks!!!! I am trying. But dang this is hard!!! Keep up the good work everyone!
avatar

September 27, 2012

Well I am doing it!!! Have not picked at this nasty scratch....and I am so happy I didnt cause it is looking soooo much better and I know if I mess with it it will look sooooo much worse. Last night was hard I went to the mirror a million times to pick at it - but I didnt touch it - slapped my own hands...lol....and walked out of the bathroom. Also took down my bathroom mirror last night so I couldnt look at it anymore....hard time getting ready for work this morning with a little itty bitty hand mirror...lol

October 06, 2012

:) glad you've been doing well x
avatar

October 07, 2012

Not so well stupid whitehead got the better if me...so i showed it and turned it into a big red mark! Take that! Does anyone notice that neosporin leaves the skin dry and it peals off sometimes making it worse?
avatar

October 07, 2012

Had a major picking session the other night. Thought neosporin would help boy was i wrong made everything look worse skin peeled off now I look horrible. Having major anxiety about going to work tmrw.:'( I just want to hide and not face all the stares
avatar

October 11, 2012

In hiding all week. :'(
avatar

October 11, 2012

I wish I picked at a place other than my face! The one place you cant hid what you are doing.
avatar

October 12, 2012

Well i think you are doing brilliantly because unlike me, you have it in you to report on this issue every single day :) wish I had that devotion. I wnt to stop but keep getting side tracked. How are you feeling now? Hope you feel a lot better. Sleeping (renewal time) IS a great healer for us skin pickers. And yes, I also wish it was not my face!!!! X
avatar

October 12, 2012

Thank you i am doing better. Still have a slight mark..not as bad as it was earlier. Sitting here feeling bad about calling in to work all week. But seriously i could not face everyone looking like that. Will still be noticable but not as bad. Really hate how this takes over your life it is out of control
avatar

October 13, 2012

I have begun wearing very long-wearing and opaque concealer to work whilst keeping everything else natural. I am tired of letting the state of my face over-ride my decisions. With concealer, I have managed to go to a friend's reunion despite scrathing three times in the same morning. My friend said she was glad my face was clear at last. I just smiled. Now I am in charge of my days out - not my skin. Also, a lady a work with visible scarring always beautifies her eyes, hair and lips instead. It successfully ditracts attention away from her heavily scarred face. The students call her beautiful. They are correct. Her skin is veryyyyyyyy scarred. She does not seem to be affected by it at all!
avatar

October 12, 2012

Just want to send out BIG HUGS to you. I too, am hiding out today after a major session last night. But, I finally told me husband about this terrible issue. It was absolutely embarrassing, but he was very supportive and told me that he hadn't noticed (lol). Like you, I pick when there is major anxiety in my life. Last night, it was out of control. Now, I sit here covered in sores with a mask on my face. Wouldn't dare leave the house today and am hoping for miracles by Sunday. Just wanted to offer my support and understanding. Tomorrow is a new day. We can start our healing right now. xx
avatar

October 13, 2012

Wow you managed to confess it to your husnad - good for you :) x
avatar

October 14, 2012

Well i am now down to a faint pink spot. Hopefully i can cover this for work tmrw. I just need to remind myself this is better than what it was a week ago. I never want to go through this again. I hope i never go through this again.
avatar

October 14, 2012

Ok first I need to apologize to everyone on the forum. I am sorry. Yes I pick my skin. But I dont have it as bad as some of you on here. I will pick one spot over and over. That one spot will look bad but the rest of the skin on my face looks fine. Reading all your post you all seem to have it way worse and would probably be happy with one spot like I deal with. I am so sorry that I make a big deal of what I lam going through. I have selfestem (sp) issues and one little pimple..whitehead drives me insane making a mountain out of a mole hill. But it is only one spot not my whole face. You all are exceptional women and way stronger than me. You are all beautiful and should be proud of what you have overcome....will overcome...be proud of who you are! Dont hide in shame! Live your lives! Love youselves you deserve it no matter what! Sending love and support your way!
avatar

October 15, 2012

At work - feel crappy. This spot does not look as bad as last week - but is still red uneven and very noticable to me. I feel like everyone is looking at it. I just want to go home and hide. Please can this just be over :(
avatar

October 15, 2012

Hey soembarrassed, I think we had the exact same day at work...Most of my spots look better, except one on my nose. It's almost like it won't heal and I don't get it. It was pretty bad today and I ended up just going with calamine on my nose instead of attempting to cover it with makeup. As luck would have it we had a surprise meeting today and we all had to go around the room and introduce ourselves to some new employees who started today...talk about embarrasing, I know they were all looking at my nose with this big pink dab of calamine. I just wanted to come home and hide on my couch...I know exactly how you feel!!
avatar

October 16, 2012

My new outlook....screw everyone. So I have a couple of red spots on my face...oh well. I just put a little moisturizer on and some Mary Kay loose foundation. You can see the red spot...well I can....But you know what it looks better then trying to put on concealor. If it bothers people at work...then they just need to not talk to me. I cant live my life worrying about what others think anymore...It is making my insane. I just keep telling myself "look by this time next week you wont even be able to tell" So one day at a time. My friends and family are all that matter and truthfully they dont care. My daughter says all the time "mom geez you cant even see anything" She is 9 and trust me if it looked as bad as I think it looks she would tell me. LOL So hang in there Spottyface we will get through this. We made it through yesterday...hard as it was but noone is going to think back to that day and remember that our faces where a mess...Have a good day today!!!!
avatar

October 16, 2012

I have figured out that the Mary Kay makeup is making my face oily and therefore causing breakouts. So what makeup do you all suggest?
avatar

October 16, 2012

BareMinerals Matte Foundation and BareMinerals Original Mineral Veil with SPF 25... I absolutely LOVE this stuff. It has definitely kept my oily skin at bay and makes my skin look flawless :)
avatar

October 18, 2012

Your skin must be fairly good in that case as I find Bare Minerals conceals almost nothing!
avatar

October 18, 2012

i use clinique transparency.. i need number 4 as i have olive skin. it doesn't seem to make me break out (i also only brush it on to my cheeks to even me out) plus then i use a stick concealer by nuetrogena (also comes in different shades).. the trick for me is to brush the powder on first over a light weight lotion so i don't look dry. then i apply concealer over the spots that bug me.. but lightly! the more you cake on the worse it looks! today i even put a light layer of neosporin over a flake of skin then the concealer (powder was already on!) and it looked good! up close you could see the flake.. but i just keep reminding myself in time it will peel off on its own with new healed skin underneath!
avatar

October 18, 2012

Yes this particular spot can 'be over' by this time next week, if there is a focus on treating acne insteadddd. I managed it with Clearasil 4 hour treatment. It takes down the redness and the next day large spots look less aggressive, and smaller ones honestly die down. So there is nothing left to pick. Give it a go... Don't feel it is solely for teenagers, as I made that mistake for yrs. Hope it'd make you feel more confident. Also, alter your hairstle on the day of a scratch, as I find people notice me for that rather than any acne/scratching on my worst days. If it is on your forehead, wearing your fringe slanted helps to cover it for a few days.

October 19, 2012

Hello, I just joined this group. I am African American, 30 years old. My skin picking has gotten so bad in the last year! So I am ready to quit taking it literally hours at a time. I get into picking mode really bad at night with tweezers. So now I have black marks all over my face : (( I started using Proactiv a couple months ago but the cleanser has the little crystals in it and I don't think that's good for my healing scabs or open wounds from picking, am I right? Should I be using a cream cleanser to avoid the scratching of my scabs? Also with proactiv my skin around my mouth and eyes have gotten dry. Can anyone recommend good products to use while my skin is healing and a good moisturizer? Oh and I have to tackle the dark spots! I have the proactiv dark slot corrector but I'm thinking it won't work until have let my skin heal first because I have seen no results. It's been working as far as breakouts so that's good I haven't had any pimples lately.

Hello Malynda and welcome! I too used to pick with tweezers. I ended up throwing them away a year ago and still do not own a pair of tweezers to this day (that was my first BIG step toward recovery). Some great products you can use to help heal your skin and continue to still prevent breakouts are: Cetaphil Antibacterial Cleansing Bar; T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel; and Calamine Lotion. I used to use Proactive but it caused a lot of damage to my skin and it became irritated and inflamed. Might I suggest you try Wal-Mart's Equate version of Proactive. It's very effective and not as abrasive. Also, it's very inexpensive (around $5 for each item and $12 for the entire kit). I only purchase the Purifying Cleanser and Repairing Lotion (I prefer to use Witch Hazel as my toner). Please check out my forum topic, "wounds are HEALING and scars are FADING" http://www.skinpick.com/node/2328 to learn more. I want to wish you the best of luck on your road to recovery and we are all here to listen if you need us. :)
