Maybe I can do it this time...

I've been doing this for years, since I was 4-5 at least. I cant tell you why, I had a great childhood so all this crap on the site about depression and underlying abuse and etc etc is bollucks in my opinion. I seem to do it mostly at night, even basically in my sleep. My parents asked my doctor when I was 6 or so what to do and he told them to put socks on my hands at night. It sorta worked but they would eventually come off. I do it because I am bored. I find that I do it on the drive to work, driving anywhere really... , sitting in front of the computer at work. and then as I am just about to sleep. or I will wake up suddenly and attack one and go back to sleep. If I can feel a dry crusty area I remove it. I dont want it on my face. Its not so much for the pain, but for the idea that I dont want it on my face, even though I know it will come back only worse. I bother mostly my face. Acne started when I was a teenager so that made it worse 100 times. I'm 26 now and whenever I get a pimple somewhere it turns into a scab the size if my pinkie nail within a week. I've tried to stop... keeping my skin clear is hard though considering even when I dont have anything, I still go on safari for them, running my hands all over my face looking for the smallest something. Ones on my arms are just a bonus, not my usual targets so those do not get a lot of attention and heal quickly. Dry skin on my lips are also fair game though... The only thing I have found to help is cutting my fingernails completely off, where there is no more white part. cut them so short they cant be used for picking. and whenever I DO pick something, immediately put neosporin on it. it helps it heal a bit. While I still havent been able to break the pattern, it helps heal them quicker so they do not scar. If anyone wants to try a buddy system, of keeping track of the days we can go with out doing it and the times we fail so we can lift each other back up, my email is akanechan982 at yahoo.com Anyone else who does it out of boredom, what is the replacement "tick" you use instead of picking? I could use a couple of ideas.:(

We can do this - just gotta stay positive and focused. I do it unconsciously as well, and partly out of boredom. Believe it or not, I play World of Warcraft to avoid getting bored and that helps somewhat. That or I'll play with my rings or something. You can try the rubber band whatsit - put a band on your wrist and twang it if you find yourself starting to pick.
