BPD

This is actually my first post. I do not have Borderline Personality Disorder but I am married to someone who does have it. Face picking is one of those destructive disorders that would be considered self harm so I can immagine that people with BPD do have this a lot of the time.

I don't think skin picking is a symptom of borderline personality, but that doesn't mean you can't have both disorders. I recommend getting an intake from both a psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist. BPD is an Axis II disorder. These disorders are "expected" to last throughout a person's lifetime. Some of the common disorders associated with skin picking are impulse control disorders, anxiety disorders, and somatoform disorders. These disorders are listed on Axis I of the DSM IV.

It's not a specific symptom but borderlines have a broad range of symptoms. Self harm is one of them and skin picking is considered self harm. Also part of BPD is that they are very impulsive, it's not considered an impulse control disorder because it is already considered an emotional dysregulation disorder. When I am emotional I pick, someone with BPD could deffinatly pick this habbit up as a coping mechanism because they are always emotional.
