I pick my fingers and toes until they bleed

I've been doing this since primary school so probably 20 years or so. I go through periods of picking and stopping but I can't help myself. I live in the UK and have free nhs so was considering speaking to the GP about it as I want to stop. I don't want to go if there's nothing they can do. Any advice please? Thanks
