Thumbs, lips and hair. do I need to seek help?
for as long as I can remember I have had a seriously bad bad habit with picking the skin around my thumbs, I just can't seem to stop.
Sometimes I will do it and not even notice I'm doing it!!
I must do it for a good few hours a day and they are totally messed up and sore and just really horrible to look at, does anyone know of anyways to stop this and because I don't bite them I cannot put the nasty tasting stuff on them because I only pick.
I must admit it gets worse with stress and boredom but even when I'm in a good mood it seems to happen?!
I also really have an obsession with picking my hair aswell (split ends) and will do this for hours until my mum or partner says stop.
also pick my lips aswell and it is also so disgusting after I'm done with picking them!!
I didn't think I had a problem until I looked online and now realise I do, is it worth seeing a doctor about this?? any advice would be much appreciated I can't bear to look at my thumbs any longer in this state!!

I would definitely recommend that you seek professional medical help. As a picker myself, these habits can take up so much time of our precious lives. They are also unhealthy and can lead to infection, isolation or just plain frustration with ourselves! With the right counseling and/or medication you can conquer this! Good luck! :)
