New challenge

I've been picking at my skin ever since I can remember. I'm going to turn 21 in a month, and I'm so sick and tired of dealing with this. Skin picking has prevented me from developing relationships and has been academically detrimental. It has become a crutch - any time I'm facing something difficult, I turn to picking rather than embrace the issue. I've tried before to stop, with no success. As much as I'd like to say this time is different, that would be dishonest. All I can say is that I'm going to give a fuller effort than ever before. I will post daily comments as progress reports. Anyone who wants to join, feel free!

Hey you! I'm in... I'm on a challenge myself... I am able to keep my hands away almost 100% if I'm dedicated, until the day (usually after two weeks) where my pores are so stuffed with blackheads that they turn into irritated pores and I'm forced to take action and push everything out.... but when I do this the unconscious daily picking returns..... I wish I could afford treatment for this, because when I do this myself, I always have difficulties keeping my hands off afterwards. It's like my mind tells me it's suddenly ok to pick... I just spent a couple of hours reading about and purchasing natural treatments like clay masks etc. and my goal is to 1) not pick at all 2) cleanse mildly with soap and my Shiseido cleansing brush 1 or max 2 times a day, 3) use an exfoliating scrub twice a week, 4) use a clay mask two times a week, 5) use tea tree oil to alleviate upcoming pimples, and 6) remember to cleanse face after sweaty workouts. Hopefully this will help clear my pores more... Another trick I'm using that helps me a lot and that you might want to follow: is covering up your mirror/mirrors in the face-area/height with paper and a list, where you sign a "non-picking-pledge" every day, and in the end of the day you write down in percentage how well you did... It's like keeping a promise and a journal. Another tip: I realized that if I pick other places like my shoulders or chest - I will naturally think it's ok to touch my face too... So trying to let go of ALL kinds of picking helps me a bit too... last facial picking spree was provoked by my shoulder-picking.... And last tip: if a whitehead comes, I'll just cover it up with make-up and hope that my cleansers and cleansing brush will one day take care of it once it's ready... Hope this helps you too...
