Newbie here! Thinking of throwing out my makeup. Has anyone else tried that?

Hi everyone! I'm brand new here and have just started my mission to stop picking. Makeup makes picking so easy. I can make myself look halfway normal (at a distance, at least) even after a really bad session. Here is a side-by-side comparison from this morning (before and after makeup): http://i.imgur.com/1WM4uDm.jpg. I have been able to stop picking for about a week or so at a time in the past, and my skin actually looks presentable when left alone. I'm just now starting to commit more seriously to stopping and think I should be able to resist the urges for at least the upcoming week. My plan is to then throw out my foundation/coverup (once I can get away with being in public without it). My thinking is that without makeup as my crutch/enabler, I'll be muchhhhh less likely to pick. I am far too concerned about keeping my picking secret to go out in public with uncovered sores. Hopefully this isn't a pipe dream! Has anyone tried this, or something similar, with any success? Thanks!

Hey, I've done this in the past and found it really helpful. I used to never take my make up on holiday, and then because I was more relaxed I was less likely to pick, and swimming in the sea and sun was good for my skin, so I usually came back looking great which was an incentive to continue not picking for a while. Unfortunately, while my skin used to be like yours, i.e. pretty good apart from the picking, this year it suddenly got bad of its own accord, so I kind of have to have make up. Would be a bit too cruel to myself to go without it. Though my brother says the only spots he can see are the ones I've picked.. Anyway how are you getting on, did you try this challenge? I'm looking for someone on here to have as a sort of picking guide/team, as things are much easier in twos.. Haven't had any responses here yet!

Hey MostlyHarmless and Rose808,

I'm brand new here, and I'm looking for support. MostlyHarmless, I really admire you for sharing your side-by-side. My first reaction was, "she looks just like me." I don't ever wear makeup, but I'm getting more self-conscious about this.

I'm having a hard time just accepting this as I thing--I'm not even comfortable using the word "picking" to describe what I do yet lol. But not-so-deep down, I know...

I'm at the part where I don't want to try and stop it yet--I just want to learn more about it, and try to believe my therapist that I'm not alone and the most disgusting and foul and weird and fucked up creature ever for doing this to myself (finally brought it up to him recently in a way we both started to take seriously).

Rose808, I'd love to walk with you.
