Unsure.

Hi, I'm new...
I pick my skin alot, or what seems alot anyway... compared to people I know at least. I pick the skin on my arms, shoulders, as far down back as I can reach, my chest and very occasionally my legs. I don't really recall doing this when I was younger, I'd say it started around 16 maybe and I only ever remember picking my arms back then. I went to see my nurse last year she gave me cream and tablets for acne and sent me away. I went back and she said my skin looked clearer... I didn't think so but I just left anyway.
I guess I'm just trying to figure out why I do it... I hate the way it looks, I hate the way I feel afterwards. I'm not even sure if I'm in the right place but there's so little information in the UK, I mean maybe it's nothing...
Sorry for the long post... it's taken me most of the day to convince myself to post this!

Hi Lolly, welcome. From what you said, I think your'e in the right place. Good job finding the courage to reach out! Most of the people on this forum are struggling with the same thing you are. Skin picking is a terrible thing to deal with. I've struggled with it myself for 28 very frustrating years. If you have time, read through some of the different posts here, you will find you're not alone. I think you will also find some coping skills and ideas on how to stop or at least cut your picking down some. Wishing you well and don't give up!

You need to just read and learn about skin picking. Then try whatever method you might think will work for you. If it doesn't work, then try another until you find something that helps. Acknowledging that you have a problem with skin picking is a big step. Ask your parents for their help also, or maybe an older sibling or another family member. Don't give up and don't give in. Keep being proactive and you will overcome this! If I can do it (and I did), you can too!
