Hi Beckies 1185, I googled Dermotillma and I'm so glad I clicked this forum link. Your post was the first one I read. I couldn't believe my luck ! This is exactly something I've wondered for a long time now. Thank you so much for posting your information. I've asked my estheticain so many times how to remove those white tiny dots. I pull them out with tweezers, I rip skin with Kleenex... anything to get them out of my face. They are on my chin too. Unfortunately The answer was it's oil and my facie moisturizer was clogging my pores. I see your post was from a year ago, if you still come to the forum I'd really like to talk about this a little more.

YOU HAVE FOLLICULITIS AS I HAVE. A PUNCH BIOPSY WILL CONFIRM IT. IT TOOK ME 5 DERMATOLOGISTS TO READ MY RESEARCH, DO THE BIOPSY [I WASN'T AWARE OF THE PUNCH BIOPSY] AND GET PAST THE FALSE ADULT ACNE DIAGNOSIS. I FOUND MINE WOULD NOT HEAL UNTIL THE WHITE SPOTS WERE EXTRACTED [ A FOLLICLE ] AND THEN APPLY HOT PACKS [WASHCLOTHS] AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN FOLLOWED BY VASELINE AND 2X2 GAUZE SQUARES TO PROTECT PILLOW CASES. THIS WILL ALSO REMOVE YOUR SKIN COLOR AND LEAVE A PINK AREA. I HAVE CLEARED THE FOLLICULITIS BUT AM NOT COMPLETELY HEALED DUE TO SKIN PICKING COMPULSION. THE DERMATOLOGIST WOULD NOT EXTRACT THE SPOTS FOR ME, JUST SAID "DON'T TOUCH THEM, THEY HEAL ON THEIR OWN. WRONG. MY PRIMARY PHYSICIAN USED TO LOOK AT THE ONE LARGE WHITE SPOT I COULDN'T REACH/SEE IN THE MIRROR FOR ABOUT 9 MONTHS, STAYED JUST AS IT WAS. I GOT SO FRUSTRATED ONE DAY AS I COULD GET NO HELP AND WHILE IN THE TUB I TOOK A VERY SHARP FINGERNAIL AND GOUGED IT OUT. IT WAS HEALED OVER IN A WEEK. IF YOUR DERMATOLOGIST FIGURES OUT HOW TO CLEAR THEM UP IN A MORE CIVILIZED, LESS PAINFUL MANNER PLEASE TELL ME.

I have never posted anything online, but felt I need to here because I have suffered with the same issues. I believe what I have is caused by a wart virus that most doctors have not yet seen. These scabs and sores act like warts in that they will heal if they are smothered. I think that the white plugs are some sort of root and that when picked, they are opened and revived again. I believe this because I have read a ridiculous number of posts and everyone has tried everything for staph, fungi, and bacteria. Viruses will not respond to any of those treatments. I have been using Manuka Oil on my face for about one week and almost every one of my scabs/sores are gone. I wish I had before and after pictures to share with you. The Manuka Oil dries these things up AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PICK and you will want to. The Manuka Oil makes them perfect for picking!! I had 3 deep sores that are still healing after a full week of using the oil. These white plugs actually came out after using the oil. I've seen them on my fingertips when putting the oil on my face. My face has not looked this good in years. Every day I would warm my face with a washcloth and put the Manuka Oil on the affected areas. I did this several times a day when I could. I hope it does wonders for you too!

Oh my gosh you are the only persons post I've read that also agrees with me. They look like a type of wart don't they? I even got out my iPhone to zoom in and they do look like warts. I have manuka oil I'll have to try it

Manuka oil? Is that a form of manuka honey? And where would you find it?
avatar

June 15, 2017

I think you can find it in the wound care/first aid section
avatar

November 12, 2016

Hi! I believe it's derived from the same plant/tree that bees use to make manuka honey, but is actually the oil from the plant. I bought mine on Amazon. Even my 4-year old son said my boo-boos are all better. Just make sure you don't pick. The manuka oil dries them up and it's very hard to not pull the scabs. I still have one deep one, but it's healing too. Good luck. I am paying attention if you have any more questions.

I am looking for posts of people with these symptoms and posting my answer in hopes it can help some of you. Discoid lupus! I finally got diagnosed and have started Plaquenil and high SPF sunblock every day. It has been a life saver! Blood work was done and showed a positive ANA. Cascade test done and showed the lupus. It isn't bugs, fungus, yeast, aliens, mental illness, etc...it's an autoimmune disease with a treatment!

I discovered these white stretch plugs are actually meant to be there - they are hair follicles. I don't know why I get such an overwhelming compulsion to pull them out, but I do. So satisfying and stress-relieving!

May 18, 2017

If they were actual follicles, wouldn't a hair be in them? Follicles wouldnt grow back once removed I don't think

I've really found comfort in reading all these comments. I've been suffering the same thing and wanted to add what I learned today. I've tried all kinds of acne treatments and suggestions on this page. And now I'm Throwing in my newest side of the story. My dermatologist wanted to start me on acutane but I knew that wasn't the problem so I found a new doctor. Today my new dermatologist told me she believes it to be bacterial in nature (potentially MRSA). She did a swab in hopes of confirming exactly what the bacteria is. She has me washing with cetaphil, treating current spots with a cream called Calmoseptine (either found with first aid cream or in the incontinence section... weird I know). She's treating bacteria from the inside with bacitracin along with another pill in case there is anything viral in nature going on. She said anytime you pick at one of the spots and touch another spot the infection will move. So if you put cream on one spot... you need to wash your hands before putting cream on another spot. Wash hands constantly. Throw out or sanitize makeup brushes. Wash towels and pillow cases. I know many of us use tweezers or clippers on the plugs... not sure if that's a good idea or not but I do know that if you use them on one spot and then again on another site you're transferring the bacteria which I've been doing for months! Hope this helps someone out there!!

Wow, after months of searching online, going to dermatologist that brushed me off, and feeling humiliated by my skin picking issues, I feel like I have found a group of people that understand! I am currently dealing with these strange little white pearl like hard pearls in the pores around my upper and lower my mouth skin, My chin, and especially around the lining where my lips meet my skin. They are nowhere else on my face and I have never experienced them in my life until a few months ago. When I try to squeeze or pop them, Nothing will come out and that little white pearl just stares at me! LOL! I continue to attach, determined to get it out! I use special tools, tweezers and my nails until I just end up with horrific scabs on my face. I really did it this time, guys. A few days ago I was trying to pop one that is around the corner of my mouth. I thought I had gotten a little bit of gunk out so I sanitized it and let it be, but now my face looks horrible! The whole Right middle of my mouth-corner has a huge scab on it that looks like one of those little white flleshy dots everywhere around it. The outside of the “hole” is red and the middle of the whole is white. WHITE!! It is super noticeable and like nothing I’ve ever, ever seen before! In my past I’ve tried everything for my acne and now for the strain pearl like clogged pores -witch hazel, bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, Teatree oil, lavender oil, Rosehip seed oil, baking soda, activated charcoal, and every kind of soap lotion and spray that you can purchase. Nothing is helping with these, but I am beginning to think that the reason nothing is working is because it is fun! I have read online that these white flat plugs that don’t come out can be a sign of a fungal infection, and since it’s only affecting the pores around my mouth, I think I’m under some kind of fungal attack! LOL! But this hole that I’ve made on the side of my mouth is the straw this broke My perverbial back. I went tonight and got some Tinactin, which is used for athletes foot but it’s just an antifungal cream. I am going to use it twice a day on my entire mouth region, including the edges around my lips that get these nasty clogged pores all around them. I will hope and pray that this works and will keep anyone posted that is still interested if anyone is on Saturday! That’s really nice to know that other people understand and that I’m not dealing with this alone. Thank you for your support and best of luck to everybody!

Hi There Thattallchic1981, (I'm a short chic...born 1982)(Just assuming that you used that screen name for that reason:) I have been dealing with this for the past five years and I have tried everything. I have gone to several dermatologists and consequently, I have been ignored and humiliated by them. I recently read a post on here by "allhealed" in which it was suggested that we may be suffering from some strain of HPV which is the virus that causes warts. So, I started doing some reading online and I stumbled across some information that suggested that the medication "Tagamet" (which is sold as an OTC anti-acid treatment for stomach ulcers) can be used to cure warts if it is taken in higher doses. The ingredient in this medication is cimetidine and it is considered to be safe with very minimal side effects even when taken in massive doses. The thought behind why this medication works is that it is a histamine blocker that inhibits the production of stomach acid. This somehow allows the body's own immune system to go to work at killing the virus, (and there is some research that shows that it may also be used to kill certain cancer causing viruses...like cervical cancer...which is caused by a strand of HPV.) I have been taking it now for almost two weeks and I have seen some massive improvement...but I'm not completely healed as of yet. Most of the information that I have read states that treatment needs to be continued for 2-4 months, even though improvements may be visible within the first several weeks. The spots on my face that are newer have completely cleared up...while the ones that have taken up residence on my face are still there, but are responding to the medication. (I have one that almost covers the entire tip of my nose...it's awful!!) I wonder if the skin on the nose takes longer to heal, especially considering the cartilage on the nose and how deep these plugs/sores are. I hesitated to write this message to you until my face was completely clear of these atrocities, so as not to give you a false hope. But I also know how devastating this skin issue is, and the physical and emotional pain that it causes. I think that "allhealed" is really on to something and I think that this medication is helping. So I didn't want to keep this information from you or anyone else that it may help. I hope that this advice brings a glimmer of hope to you on this Christmas Night.

Hi, Ladies. There is another discussion you should check out called "White Stretchy Plugs" (in the Forum search section of this site). I cannot take credit for being the first to suggest the wart theory, but I absolutely believe that is my issue. This discussion and the White Stretchy Plugs discussions are the only two I participate in. There is more recent stuff there. I hope it helps!! I know what you are going through.

I have suffered from this my whole adult life. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease about 15 years ago, I was treated but I am chronic. Acne is the one thing I cannot get in remission. Severe inflammatory cystic adult acne. Have tried every product available OTC and derm prescribed except acutane. Been getting these white plugs under my scabs for as long as I can remember but the older I get the worse they get. I pick them out Day after day and only when I get the entire root do they finally go away and heal. I’m humiliated by my acne and ashamed to go anywhere. I’ve researched and researched and I believe when your immune system is compromised and inflammation is rampid in a person these things are worse. A lot of forums I read people have some type of auto immune disease. I believe it is simply sebaceous filaments under your skin (hence under the acne sore) very inflamed and very hard to get rid of. I don’t think it’s bugs or warts or fungus. Those follicles are extra inflamed from the disease. I been on and off doxycycline for years and when I first got treated they went away but now I’m resistant so they are worse. My only question is why don’t they heal unless you pull out the plug. And why do they take months to heal. I’ve had acne sores for at least 3-4 months before they heal completely . I guess if I was cured it would go away . At the point I’m just looking for a answer to calm thr inflammation and heal the acne. Hope this helps some people .

I can't believe I found people dealing with the same symptoms! But so many different ideas on what they have. I have a long story but I'll summarize. OCT . 2016 got cheylettiella mites. Me husband, dog. I didn't know this at that time but my dog and I were suffering from parasitic worms and a couple other mites, or creatures that would come to haunt me. We had moved into a low income small town that has crappy, litterally, water. This I didn't know til months and horrific illness later. Back to mites. So we scratched out way through them I wad able to see them I knew that was what we are dealing with. Picked furniture up off the curb, washed and sprayed with raid but didn't kill mites. There was car dander in the drawers abd crevices no clue that was it. Let them sit in dining room for a month before I started putting it together. Got rid of it. Husband cleared up fine. I had them on my chest and then got big sores on my head. I went to emergency room after feeling something wiggle out of possibly my liver and wrap around it then went "inside" and then I felt like I couldn't breathe, hence, anaphylactic shock, panic attack whatever. E.r. Dr. was such an ass. She dismissed my concern about parasites, worms, because I hadn't been outside of the country. I tore off my gown and cussed her out and my husband and I left before we got thrown out. You see he knows I do not embellish my illnesses, I dont advertise my illnesses in Facebook etc. He knew something was really wrong when I said I was dying. I didn't and I knew that a medical dr was not my avenue. I researched and started taking Diotemacious Earth four times a day. Afterb six weeks I was to check my stool..oh wow...that was almost as bad as the nest of white kinds maggot but with six legs I had in one of the sores on my head. I still have one dried up and great pics of the shrimp looking thing. Anyway, I had round worm, tapeworm, whip worm, hook worms, that rid me of what I thought was psoriasis for decades. It came back four months later. I'll get into that again. Anyway, after many trials and treatments, that one would think keep mites away too I beat the worms only to realize that this return of psoriasis isn't that abd it's not cheylettiella. It did start and I mean within 15 minutes of me slicing open moldy spot, very large, on my mattress, that may have been a dead mouse with mites?? Whatever it was caused my scalp to have like 5 round scaly things rise from the side of my head like a Dragon or something. They weren' quite the size of dimes But they are I a row and from that point on things went bad. Mind you I spent hours in the mirror observing, picking etc. Present time: I get a clear scale over painful little sores. It seemsb the flakes from my head, oh yes, they broke my back out,my husband has sat and pickef out pieces of insect like legs and the like. The sores will not heal til the whatever it is is removed. First it was my scalp and back. Now its in my chin. I had parasites in my chin. I thought it was the dead working it's way out. I've been able to see that when I remove the crusty hard scab, that looks like a bug shell often I see white round things I initially thought were up n coming white heads, or pores under skin. It's only been the last couple weeks I see in my magnifier on my phone that these things may pop like a pimple but right behind it and the clear or yellow sticky ooze comes another and that doesn't pop. It's harder to get out gotta dig, and it bleeds profusely, once it stops the white thing is there again. I can get ahold of it with pointy tweezers and it's latched on like a tick. Once I slowly pry it out can see I the magnifier its a mite. The site heals so fast unless anther one is nextb to it. I've taken alot if time to observe, disect, research these. I can't find a name for them. This is the first place I found almostv exact descriptions. I also get sensations of something jumping on my face, very tiny I mean and upon review it's tiny black mites, you can't see with naked eye coming out of pores. I've had them in my scalp for months. Just tonight I saw the white things in a sore on my scalp. I alsob have noticed my hair roots seen to be covered by these. I just got an excellent sample too. I'm pretty sure these are a mite of some kind. I really do not think it's just fungus. Here's what I have found: 1. Tiny visible and mom visible black, black and white swirly, brown and shiny mites. In my scalp, toes, chin, AND, in my water that I filter through three coffee filters. 2. White scaley thick layers on scalp but not psoriasis. My scalp can have no flakes and in matter in minutes have patches of big flakes. My husband noticed too when looking on my scalp. 3. In the thick white scaly flakes, opaque white straight lines. 4. Flakes break down into many tiny flakes that ib have confirmed mites. Triangular shape with legs or hair appendages. They also will shoot hair like things at other mites I have on me. Seriously. I feel like a freak but I made my husband watch too. 5. Found morphing mites. I had a green thing in my mouth, curious ib looked at it with magnifier, and took pics of it morphing.. it's creepy and gross and ive yet to find anything on that. 6. White bulb of "puss" under scab is actually a mite and once rid allows sore to heal. 7. Sites feel like piece of glass in them. 8. Had bite marks on giant bumps in head that husband picked out a long flatb thing that jumped. I have pics. About 4 mm long. 9. Feeling of things in my face or moving in my hair. 10. Have mites in my right ear causing bleeding. 11. Initially have a scab that is a rectangular shape. 4 mm by 1 or 2 mm. Approx.. 12. Toe I originally thought i had fungus but on the last months discovered it's mites. See tiny black specks in nail.. White flakey stuff under nail. Painful. 13. Vicks chest rub helps immensley. Actually works out things in sores. Put it on sore, a good blob, and wear latex glove or whatever alternative, and rub in circle. 14. Acetone, nail polish remover, I can buy 100% acetone polish remover. 15. Clive oil. Put can on sore. You can dilute and use cotton ball. I buy bulk whole cloves and boil water. Pour over cup of cloves to cover plus two inches. Let sit over night. Strain in small holed colander then again through coffee filters. I believe my dog and i are continuously infesting each other. I just put him back on frontline for the battle and for the first time in months my head is full of shard like flakes sticking out of scalp. Small patches of flakes in hair like they were "dug" up.

I too suffer with these white plugs, but in only a couple of areas on my body...I used to party hard and used a lot of recreational drugs over time i noticed an itching in said effected areas this years later developed into quite angry and very itchy lumps that had the appearance of a spot that never gather eventually through irritation more than anything i had a good dig finding a very large white tubular blob sat quite deep in my skin i got some tweezers and pulled that sucker out. that was the first plug on my face in the deep flesh of my cheek right along were i understand my lymph system would feed... fast forward five years the lump on my face appears once a year always late September October the was accompanied by a swelling on the ball of my jaw the same side also a red swelling exactly the same on the dimple between my shoulder and collar bone..this year my face was particularly bad 21 white plugs removed from an area no bigger than a mans thumb end the 22nd was over an inch long and an amber color my jaw had been swelling up until i got the longer sucker outta my face now my jaws much better shoulders getting there but this is just my experiance that i wanted to supply to back up this next statement witch is a lot of whats wrong with me is due to the crap in my ex druggy system years of molly and coke have left a lot of toxins and this is obviously some of that working out...i understand this and did then.....but i ask for people to maybe consider that we live in a toxic age especially some places more than others.....stop and really consider for a second that some of what these mystery plugs and yes fibers...are our bodies trying to rid themselves of environmental toxins just a thought would love feed back first ever forum post anywhere ....=p Please if this makes u think read up on lymph systems sebaceous systems maybe help you ?

Hi everyone, I am new to this but wanted to share my experience. I too have been suffering with white stretchy plugs in an encrusted edged sore, which weeps and splits open. When you wipe the weeping away you can see all these white plugs popping out of the sore. It looks like you can just grab them with tweezers, but when you try to grip them they suck back beneath the skin and disappear for a day. Sometimes you can tweeze them out and when they pull out they bleed heavily. The site will not heal until all the plugs are removed. These sores can last anywhere up to one month. There is also a little black plug like thing close to the scab that can be squeezed out. I have been suffering with this for four years with no result. I have extensively searched the internet in hope of finding out a cause, as my face has now quite a lot of pitted scars. I have reduced my findings to this list: 1. DEMODEX 2. DISCOID LUPUS 3. FUNGAS 4. CYSTIC ACNE 5. MILIA 6. FOLICULITIS 7. STAPH After attending the GP, Specialist, Beauty Professionals, Dermatologists, no one could give me an answer!! I have been prescribed with MANY antibiotics and the problem has not been eliminated. Finally my skin was swabbed and returned with STAPH AUREUS recently. I am being treated with STAPH antibiotics, nasal antibiotics and using CHLOREXIDINE 2%. I am not sure if anyone else can relate to this coinciding with a hospital visit where it may have been picked up? Mine started after I had major surgery and contracted Staph in a surgical wound. Any thoughts or similarities with anyone? I’m so over this ruling my life and preventing me from wanting to show my face in public. It’s so embarrassing.

I have them also. Dermatologist at the university of Miami told me that these white pustules as I’ll call them are common in people who suffer from cystic acne. They are not residue left over from a cystic acne They start deep in my skin and takes years for them to come to the top. I started seeing them when I lived in Alabama the heat and humidity caused them to surface. Once one of them appeared above shin I pulled it out with tweezers. I call them pustules. Little sacs of white fluid. The white fluid gets firmer over time. If you have to pick at them make sure to remove the entire sac as not to cause infection. They appear closer to the top of skin than they are. Which temps us to pop them and cause damage to the skin.

Girls (this could work on you) I had this same exact thing for months (more than 3 months) on my lower cheeks near my mouth .I had 2 large round wounds, pink around the corners but white in the middle, with harden scab on top but it’s on and off. The scab was sometimes open due to constant picking of the white plugs underneath. Honestly saying, till today, i do not know what they were . But i read up on the internet and came to many confusing conclusions. One day i decided to just stop picking, it was hard but i managed to kind of slowed down and reduce the picking frequency eventually. I reduced sugar and gluten and started taking zinc and vitamin C supplements as i heard zinc and vit-C helps wounds heal fast. The harden scab formed again and this time i did not open to pick again and just leave it. I stared using chemical exfoliation And AHA toner followed by moisturizer . I think it needs patience but belive it or not it went away. After like three weeks of not picking ( and my AHA toner and peels sorta helped it flakes off), it was just gone. For those who wants to know abt the brand , I have using the AHA toner from The Ordinary along with niacinamide and zinc. These two works miracles if you have oily skin btw. For the moisturizer , I used drops of youth oil from bodyshop and I do exfoliation masks and clay masks once a week . I kept up with my avoidance for sugar , dairy and gluten. All these was very hard but it is working out. So far nothing returning to my skin yet (touch wood). Please try this diet , supplement and skincare regime) it takes patience and time but it works . Took me less than a month to see results . I now only am left with scars. One thing is you really have to control the picking tho(it really shows progress i u just leave it) . I have dcided if it comes again, i wont pick it and just treat it the same with patiene. P.S zinc really helps

Don’t want to drone on about this unless folks indicate they are on one of these Rx (or something very similar, not sure of other names for this product). Reply if ur taking either med and I might have very good news for you.

This is a fungus!! Don’t mess with them. I’ve had it for almost 15 years and just now found out what it is. You need to go to the dr and tell them to test you for fungus. Most likely yeast overgrowth. The more you mess with it the more it spreads. I’ve been using difluckn and a fungal cream. It’s clearing up.

Dermin antifungal cream will help with spots on skin but you need to be treated with medication also.

I get these little pimples and they dont really pop just bleed with a lot of clear fluid and because ive tried popping it the skin is irritated and causes a break in the skin which eventually exposes all these white plugs just bulging out the skin and if I squeeze puss will somtimes burst out but the plugs dont budge so I get tweezers and try to pull them out and some will come out and others break off and sink back in the skin tissue and even if I get them all out more return the next day its never ending. And every dermatologist has said different things one said cystic ance but I dont get huge nodules or bumps at all they are just random little tiny pimples with no head to them and the other one said she didnt know and gave me douderm patches. What are these things!!!!

For me it was not demodex or anything discussed here. It was MOLD. I tried literally everything from the prescriptions many here have tried to every home remedy I heard could possibly help. I happened to stumble across an article about mold illness and the photos of skin lesions were exactly like mine (craters that form and have several long whitish plugs that are not squeezable but removable with tweezers. Once removed a small gush of blood and then it's less tender, only to be refilled with new plugs). On the hunch, we attacked our basement and found the problem. Our dryer was not properly vented for 5 years and mold spread behind our insulation and along our pipes. Once we got rid of the mold my skin stopped flaring within 48hrs. No new wounds have appeared, the old ones are empty and slowly closing and fading. My face is so pockmarked because of this journey. I hope someone is helped by this. I have such a detailed story if anyone is interested in the 2 year sequence of events I'm not saying everyone will be the same as me but from the descriptions here some sound exactly like what I'm dealing with. It definitely wasn't demodex. I've had biopsies and seen so many DRS and lots of treatments helped but nothing made it stop except discovering and removing the mold from my house. The immune system is a key point as this skin reaction will only happen to those of us with a compromised immune system (for me it was severe anemia) and malnutrition. I really hope someone is helped by this.

I’m going through the same thing. This is the third time it’s happened in my life. I have s bunch. But the one on my neck and forehead are giant holes! I end up picking a lot because it heals once I get the hard white head out, but it ends up making me scar. Even my scar has a tiny hole in the middle where it was. I get them on my chest, back and legs and some of them hurt so bad. Is there some sort of preventative treatment?
