picking at skin

I have been picking since I was little and now I am 46 and still picking. I want to stop picking but don't know how to. I am in therapy for this but it is hard for me to use the suggestions that they make when I am in the heat of picking. I have torn my leg up. it is very painful and sometimes itchy. Could you please help. I have got to stop this. It makes me feel so ugly and ashamed. Thank you.

Have you tried medication? For very serious cases it's best to probably get on a medication. What worked for me was an antipsychotic called Seroquel. It fully eliminated the need to pick. As a last resort remedy it might be beneficial.

You need to substitute the picking for another obsessive behavior. What about obsessive exercise? Exercise to the point where you are fatigued and too tired to think of picking? At least for the time being when its so bad. Running, pilates, yoga...doesnt matter. Anything which will tire you out.
