Introducing Myself

Hello. I just wanted to introduc myself. I’m 41 years old and an obsessive picker. I have scars but can stop. Just on here for some support and to know I’m not alone. Thanks!

Do you use hydrocolloid bandaids? They minimize scarring. Also, have you tried any cosmetic procedures for the scars?? And at what age did you start picking?

Hi. Thanks for responding. No, I’ve never tried those band aids. I’ve been picking since teenage years, and I’m 40 now. It’s so hard to stop!

Like right now, after getting out of shower, I majorly picked my face. Blackhead extraction. Now I’m all red and feel so embarrassed and like such a failure. Does anyone else feel this way??

You need to start using hydrocolloid bandaids. They prevent scarring. They are supposed to be left on for as long as possible, to allow the wound to close up without leaving an indent in the skin. They also help me by preventing me from picking at formed scabs.
As for feeling like a failure, yes this disorder kills all self esteem. It also burdens me with massive guilt. When I have a good week I truly feel blessed. Sucks to have to live life revolving around this disorder.
