NEED HELP!

I usually pick my toenails, so they are pretty short, but today, I picked alittle on my second toenail, and it started coming off! It wasn't from injury or fungus! Is this normal or is something wrong? I don't want to go to a doctor! Is it ok to take my nail off?

Did it hurt? Did you forcably remove the nail? Like rip it away from the skin? If so, that's bad. But if it just sorta fell off and there is no raw skin underneath, it's totally ok. I had my pinky toenail fall right off once or twice when I was younger and it grew back just fine. I don't know why it happened and it hasn't happened since.

No, it didn't hurt at all. I was picking at the remaining cuticles on top of the nail when I realized that it started to come off! It wasn't about to fall off, just that the nail that is visible was detaching itself from the skin underneath. It was kindof weird, but I don't know why.
