I'm not really sure what to do...

I never really knew that any of this was a problem until a few days ago. For the past three years (or at least I think that long. I am 14) I have been picking at my pips until they bleed and then eating the skin. I have been also biting the insides of my cheeks and all around my mouth for longer. Along with this, I pick at my scalp, and all around my fingers. I do it constantly but try not to around my friends and family. No one really knows about it and I'm not sure what I should do about it. I don't really know why I do it and I think it might be because of some family things that happened a few years ago. I just thought it was a habit until I found out about it from a book. I just don't really know what to think, but it makes me feel a lot better knowing that there are other people with the same problem. I was just wondering if there was anyone who knows what I should do about it.

i've created quite a few topics here that have information that can help you figure out what to do about it. please read them. please find someone in your life that you can speak to about this in person. please read as much as you can about how to take good care of yourself and try not to get caught up in what other people are doing TO themselves. instead, take in what people who have experiences similar to yours are doing FOR themselves. and believe in yourself. you can change your bad habits into good ones. it requires awareness of the problem and understanding the difference between good practices and harmful ones, and the internal strength to do everything necessary to overcome them. that would include becoming informed, seeking medical assistance where necessary, taking proper care of oneself, being open about it, and committing to better ways. you are young. trust me, this won't go away by itself. make a choice now to address it. my heart goes out to you and i hope you will seek help with it and be strong about stopping the harm you are doing to yourself before you contract an infection that could cause serious harm to you. all the best to you! <3 <3 <3
