I want to kick this habit!

Day 1 - there are a lot of things that I like about myself but this habit of mine gets me down so much that I forget I have some good qualities. I spent about an hour in front of the mirror tonight. That's never a good thing for me. I'm regretting it majorly right now.

Day 1 scored about a 3 out of 10. Significant damage was caused. I'm now at the end of Day 2. Day 2 was slightly better, deserving of about a 5. Only a mini-session tonight. I seem to be a night picker.

Day 3 - a slightly better day. I'd give myself a 7. I wasn't at home much today which probably helped. And I left the light off when I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth tonight. It was too dark for me to really make out my reflection in the mirror, but just light enough to be able to put the toothpaste on the brush. It worked - ill try to keep doing it. I was also feeling happier and healthier in general today. That makes a big difference. Still, 7 is my best score yet so I'm happy about that.

Day 4 - I did well today. Really well. 9 out of 10. Once again it helped that I kept busy, outdoors and surrounded myself with people as much as possible. I have learned, however, that it is just after these good days that things often take a turn for the worse. I'm going to try hard not to let that happen.

Day 6 - not quite so strong today. Managed to exercise enough restraint to avoid causing too much damage even though the urge was ever present today. I wasn't perfect by any means, but I was pretty disciplined at times. I'm happy with how I went on the whole. 6 out of 10.

Day 7 - a better day than yesterday. 9 out of 10. Went out tonight and actually felt happy with how my skin looked. As a result, I was in a good mood all night! Unfortunately, I didn't wash or cleanse my face when I got home. Too tired - went straight to bed. At least that kept me away from bathroom mirrors!

I used to be a night-picker also! What's really helped me are over-the-counter sleeping pills. I purchase Target's Up&Up brand - the non-habit forming gel capsules (just the regular sleeping pills, not the ones with pain killers in them.) I found that they make me too sleepy to want to pick at night and I end up just going to sleep instead of picking. Also, Wal-Mart's Equate Original Clean Facial Cleansing Towelettes are great for taking your make-up off at night and cleaning your face with. I use these INSTEAD of washing my face at the bathroom sink (in front of the mirror) at night. This has also helped to prevent night-time picking for me. I hope these tips help and I just wanted to let you know that you are doing FANTASTIC!!! Keep up the great work and we're all rooting for you! XO - newperspective

Thanks newperspective! Such great tips! I actually live in Australia so I think the brands of sleeping tablets and face wipes might be different here. Anyway, I can see how both would work well at night time and I will see what I can find at the shops. All the best to you, and thanks for your support :)

Day 10 - not great. 6/10. There were a few things playing on my mind today. The heightened anxiety levels brought about a couple of mini sessions. It could've been worse. I'm determined to have a better day tomorrow.

Did well today considering I had a little bit of anxiety. I just stayed out of the house as much as possible. It's better for me not to be alone when I'm feeling down - even if I'm only in the company of strangers. I feel like I'm getting a bit stronger because I've said "no" a few times. Hope I can keep this up. 9 out of 10.
