Cuticle/Nail Care Product Suggestion?

I have been biting my nails and picking my cuticles for a long time now, and need to stop. I was curious to see if there is some sort of product or tool that I can use to smooth out my ragged fingertips. I can't remember the last time I've used anything to maintain them, such as clippers, etc. Am I looking for a regular nail file, or is there something better? One reason I pick at my cuticles is because there is always some thick skin or uneven surface to pick at. What should I get to smooth out the rough, uneven cuticles?

Vaseline is AMAZING for this. smear a little around each nail / cuticle at night before you go to bed and it works really, really well. after a few nights your fingers will be so much better and you wont want to pick at them at all. Therell be nothing to pick at! I pick my fingers in waves but havent for about a year now, and that horrible redness has just about faded, and it is so satisfying. I just need to figure out how to manage this for my face now!

actually also my gran used to put loads of thick handcream on at night and wear soft cotton gloves to bed. Its a bit strange, but actually also really helps with softening and healing.
