Anxiety Meds and Picking

Hey friends, I have been working really hard to stop my picking without the use of any kind of treatment...but I am starting to feel pretty defeated. I thought that the goal of looking and feeling beautiful for my wedding next month would be enough for me to control myself. It hasn't been. For the last year I have been saying every day this is the day I stop picking...but it never truly is. I thought that maybe if I deleted the reason for picking-which for me is imperfections on the face-I would stop...so I decided to go all out and spend the money on an excellent skin care routine. For the last 2 months it really seemed to be working. My skin was clearing up, the red marks from past picking were starting to disappear and I wasn't picking. Then last week I got 2 little barely visible bumps next to my chin on the left side and I lost control. A few days ago I got a cyst on the right side of my chin and went nuts on that too. I feel like all the hard work I've done these past couple months has completely gone down the tube. I don't know what its going to take. Stress and anxiety seem to be my biggest trigger, and with the wedding less than a month away I know I will be experiencing a lot of that. I am strongly thinking about turning to the use of prescription drugs to help keep stress and anxiety away in hopes to keep my picking problem at bay and I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried this approach or knows of any drugs that are effective. I appreciate your help!!!

YOU CAN SOOOOOOOOO DO IT ON YOUR OWN !!!!! dont turn to drugs, dont become a zombie. you can do this. do anything and everything you can to relax and spend as much time as possible around other people who make you laugh and smile, keep your hands busy, and instead of worrying about your wedding, getting anxious and picking.. you should day dream about how beautiful youre going to look and feel because youre not going to pick ! you are going to heal and be so so sooo beautiful ! i wont pick if you dont.

Thank you! This is something I've been struggling with because I am really uncomfortable with the use of drugs but I'm just starting to feel hopeless and my mother is convinced drugs are the only way....she doesn't understand how I feel about that. I want to be in control of me. You are right, I need to find ways to relax. Let's make a challenge! There are 27 days until my wedding....I'm vowing right now to do everything possible not to pick for 27 days. Do it with me, let's see how far we can go!

any pimples or abcesses u get, after u pick them wash ur hands really thoughouly then get tea tree oil and soak some cotton wool balls with it and wipe it over any area u have picked, it will sting for a few seconds then get a band aid (or gauze if its a really big area) and cover the area, the next day the scarring should be minimal. repeat this process anytime u pick. if u really dont want to pick the best things ive found are: cutting down or completely get rid of caffeine and sugar, put false nails on and get rid of any tweezers in your house and if u have times u know u are about to pick put on a cleansing mask that u cant touch for a good 15-20 mins. hope that helped! and i hope ur wedding is beautiful!

Thank you! I never heard of using tea-tree oil, I will give that a try! And I like the idea of a cleansing mask- it'll keep my hands away from my face and help my skin. Thank you for your support and your advice!!!!!

if u really want help with picking, see a counsellor or psychologist who specializes in cognitive behavioural therapy, and be honest with them- they arent there to judge you and your files are completely confidential. they will help u enormously, i have been seeing one for a couple of years and my picking is heaps better, not completely gone but my face, arms and neck are usually clear which is a huge improvement- i used to be covered in sores.

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming marriage! How exciting! :) As a fellow picker, I understand how you feel with a wedding on the way. I did NOT pick for one month prior to the big day. It was not easy, but is possible! As the bride, I did not want to worry about my face. I can tell you, not picking made life SO much easier. On my wedding day, i felt confident and glowing. Other than that, just try fit in some relaxation like stretching, yoga or meditation. You can do it! :) Good luck. I am here if you need support!
