It's been one day,

..and I haven't been eating my hands. I feel like it's really hard not to, but I haven't yet. Not since I logged into this website. A few times I will catch myself doing it. But then I go to my wrist and there is the rubber band. 18 years with having Dermatophagia, 1 day without it. And I feel human again. -Tara

Congratulations! Keep it up... I am just the opposite...I overdid my ADD meds, lost alot of sleep, and spent the hours digging myself into a hole of splotchy, raw, red misery. Best of luck...

"up-ers" will do the to you. It's called tweaking on yourself. Picking everything on your body because of boredom. But that's only if you do any drugs that's considered a "up-er; Best of luck

CONGRATS! I just joined today and can honestly say that just reading and being here has done wonders for me today. One question though, what's with the rubber band? Me and my husband were talking this morning and he mentioned to put a rubber band around my arm, and when i get the urge to bite...snap the rubber band really hard. Not sure i could do that sice i still have a red mark across my wrist. Then I would have to explain or be embarresed about two things. lol. Is it anything like that?

No The rubber band is a great way to help yourself from not picking. Because it reminds yourself that you are. And then you remember not to! Lol It's for pickers that zoneeee outt and pick. Tara B

Ive been picking my whole life, to the point where I invested in a cuticle nipper to get those really annoying bits. My hands look terrible. My boyfriend has started swatting me because I subconsciously pick fingers with the same hand while my arm is around him. Last week at work, I picked it so bad it bled and I had to ask for a band-aid. (I blamed it on a paper cut). Maybe I really do need support..... Im just glad to know Im not the only one with this issue.
