The product that might be the answer to our scabs, scars, and dry skin!

(THIS IS A BIT LONG, BUT WORTH THE READ FOR PICKERS OF ALL KINDS, TRUST ME.) Hello everyone, Bean here. I just wanted to post this because I came across a product that someone in a forum said they used on their face after picking that didn't clog their pores and had amazing overnight results with. Because I had never heard of the product and was obviously curious, I did a little research on it. The product, Lansinoh, which some of you may have heard of (I hadn't), is a cream that women who are breast feeding can use on their nipples if they become sore, crusty, and scabby. I tried to find if anyone had mentioned using it on their face or anything like that online, and found that a ton of people love it for repairing and keeping heir lips moisturized, but didn't find any accounts about using it to heal the face. Lansinoh is a 100% natural, preservative free, medical grade lanolin that can be bought at the drugstore (I got mine from CVS.) It also is hypoallergenic and doesn't need to be taken off before breast feeding a baby, so it's super safe. It doesn't clog pores, has disinfecting properties, and is very similar to the natural oils of our skin, but isn't oily. It says you can even use it if you have allergies to lanolin or wool, but I would still be careful and test it on your hand first and wait a day, just to be safe. I had no idea what lanolin was at first, but upon research I found that lanolin is derived from the wool of sheep and is the oil that their skin naturally produces to protect their skin and wool from harsh weather while retaining moisture. Lanolin is known for its ability to "support the wound healing process and enhance dermal repair" while moisturizing the skin and also preventing the loss of moisture. If you want to read more on lanolin go here: www.lanolin.com or of course just google it. After reading all about it, I had to try it, especially since it doesn't clog pores and is natural, because I know I'm not the only one who hates trying new products in fear of breaking out and wasting money. But I'm typing this with Lansinoh on my entire face, including my lips, at this very moment. It's thick so you only have to use a little, and it's very soothing. I had a horrible picking episode last night that just worsened my already picked face from a previous episode that was only 2 days ago, so my face is pretty covered in scabs and is very sore and dry. I've had this on my face for about 8 and a half hours now, and I'm already noticing some serious improvement. The smaller scars I have from previous picks are noticeably faded, my fresh scabs from 2 very close together picking episodes are already looking much less dark and red, flat and more skin-like, and it even looks like the edges of them have faded. Don't get me wrong, they're still there, but there is a very noticeable difference already. I wasn't going to post about this yet, because it's only my first day using it, but i am so astonished at the results I'm already seeing after 8 1/2 hours, I just couldn't wait to share this with you guys. I really feel like this is the product all of us pickers have been trying to find. Something inexpensive, over the counter, natural, safe, not oily, moisturizing, non-pore-clogging, disinfecting, and fast healing. I used it during the day time because I don't need to (or want to) leave the house and I want this healed ASAP, but I'm going to start using it overnight, and I recommend you do the same, unless you don't need to go out, either. I seriously recommend this to all you pickers, regardless of what you pick, because it prevents picking while healing and moisturizing damage from previous picks. Just make sure to be careful and test the product out on your hand or something first, just to make sure that you don't have an allergy to it. Also, make sure that if you're considering buying this, that you get Lansinoh, because it is the purest. Off brands claim to be the same, but they aren't medical grade like Lansinoh. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll keep you guys updated on my experience with this product, I might even show pictures if it keeps going so well. I hope this helped, good luck! :D

Hmm.. that's very interesting. I may try that. I've been using sunflower oil on my face lately which does seem to help a lot with healing and prevent bad scarring but I've noticed a slight increase in the amount of blackheads on my chin and forehead. :(

That's what always seems to happen with me every time I find a product that actually fades my scabs or scars. Its so frustrating. But, It's like 4 in the morning, right now, not sure why I'm up, but I went to bathroom and my scabs and scars are so faded. I don't even have the cream on, anymore. It absorbed almost completely when I had gone to sleep. But they're much more faded now than before I went to sleep. I have absolutely no blackhead or pimples or anything. I feel like my skin is actually healthier and cleaner. I am seriously urging you and everyone else to try it, it's so amazing, I don't understand how no one else has tried this yet! (:

Hmm, I am definitely getting some of this tomorrow! I tried the diaper rash cream, but it didn't work for me, so hopefully this will! Oh, the things we do to try and fix this. I wish it wasn't the only thing I ever think about. It just drives me insane!

It drives me crazy, too, especially since I live with my boyfriend who has to watch me go through this. I've been doing so much better with picking though ever since I got Lansinoh. I've unfortunately had 2 small, brief picking episodes since I've posted this, but not much harm was done, only a few pimples from my picks, ugh. But my skin looks so much better, like amazing. Especially now, since it's dry and cold out my skin gets so dry, making it impossible to heal my skin without scars, that just take even longer to heal than scabs. But PLEASE post your experience with it here if you try it, so we can have more insight on how this works for everyone since almost no one has used it for situations like ours in particular, and so we can spread the word to others who are just as miserable about their marks as we are. Good luck! ^^

It definitely helps heal the open sores and is really amazing! However, I have stopped putting it all over my face because my cheeks broke out! I am not sure if it is the Lansinoh because I just switched birth control pills last week, so the breakouts could be from that! I am loving it as a spot treatment on my bad, raw spots! I am hoping that after my hormones adjust to the new birth control, I can put it all over again. It makes my skin so soft! I just wish I could tell if it is non-comedogenic...I have read several articles, but some say it isn't and some say it is. Has it made you break out at all?

The reason that some people say it can cause acne is because a lot of lanolin isn't as pure as Lansinoh, but I have had absolutely no breakouts or clogging of pores at all, which is a huge deal for me because almost every product that ever touches my face gives me acne and clogs my pores all up, so it is for sure non-comedogenic. I have almost NO blackheads on my face ever since I started using this, which is what I picked all of the time, so it's helped me seriously punch my dermatillomania in the throat, and that's why I want everyone to try it so badly! One thing I love about it is that because it goes so deeply into your skin and has disinfecting properties, it makes pimples that aren't at a head come to a head way faster and go away quicker, so maybe it's possible that that's what happened, because I honestly don't see how this could clog anyone's pores, it's so pure and non greasy. And no, I don't mean that it's purging your skin of the pimples like a lot of products like to claim, just brings out and gets rid of them super fast. I even put it on my boyfriends nose because it was dry and flaky and he was even shocked at how much it moisturized and even cleaned up the blackheads on his nose so much. I use it on my entire face everyday, including on my lips and eyelids. I'm Latina and have a lighter olive tone so I'm prone to having darker looking undereyes and I feel like it's made my eyes look a lot less dark, also. This is best thing to ever happen to my skin and I beg you to wait for your body to adjust to your birth control because I want you and everyone to see how truly amazing it is, especially with regular use. Keep us updated! :3

The only thing and I mean the only thing after thousand of dollars of meds and doctors, that works for me is Hydrocolloid bandages.

I've never heard of those, how do they work? But you should try this! My picking has hit a major halt because of this. My skin being so clear and much healthier so fast gave me so much more confidence, which i felt like was what I really needed to be able to get the strength to finally overcome this. That's why I'm pushing it so hard, just because I want everyone to experience the same results I have. But I seriously am considering emailing you guys pictures of my face when I first started using it and the results. I took pictures of my face everyday the first week, and if you really would want to see them, you can email me and ask, if you'd like. ^.^

CindyR Band aides never work for me - I pick at them too. A bandaid of any kind doesn't even make it an hour. I could not find straight up lanolin but I did buy Bag Balm which is made with part lanolin. And I put a big gob on my head at night and it seems to stay there. The place that is left to heal is very tiny - so tiny - I wish I could just get this part done and healed. I would feel so much better. Still having tons of trouble leaving it alone. Bag balm might smell a little funny to some people but I don't mind it at all. After this little thing is healed I will have nothing to pick. Finger nails are trimmed short and look pretty good right now only one finger has a cuticle problem that I picked at. I personally don't pick unless I have something there to pick. I don't created picking sites and I don't get acne or pimples of any kind. If I could get this one thing to heal I would be pick free for awhile.

Lanolin is really great for healing the skin, especially if it's pure. The brand for pure lanolin is called Lansinoh cream. It's nipple cream for breast feeding women, so you'd have to maybe look for it around sections of a store for maternity and such. I got mine at CVS. And be grateful that you don't have a face-full of marks. I pick my entire face of everything in my pores, at my worst. I have no blackheads from using Lansinoh, though, and the only pimples I've gotten were from mild picking, but are gone now. Since my face is clear now, I feel way less of an urge to pick, though, so I agree it's easy to not pick with clear skin. Good luck!(:

I have found that the Lansinoh does help heal wounds that are not seeping. If I put the Lanolin on a seeping wound, it is still seeping in the morning! I have been using it on wounds that are scabbed, to help heal the scab faster and it has been working. I am still waiting to switch my birth control to a mono-phasic, but on Sunday, I start my new pack---so, I am hoping this will help my new hormonal acne! YIKES! One thing that I am obsessed with right now was mentioned on the forum in a post a while ago. It's called Puracyn and I can only find it at Walgreens in the band-aid aisle. It is a clear liquid that you spray on the wound. It is a miracle worker! I have been using it as a toner both morning and night and then on the seeping wounds, I coat the bandaid in it and sleep with it on the spot. I am still using the Lanolin on wounds that are not seeping and having luck with that. So, if I have a fresh wound, then I do Puracyn and then Lansinoh. I am hoping to eventually not have ANY open wounds and just use Lansinoh! I agree with you...if I can stop picking and see how clear my skin can get, then I will probably not pick! UGH!

I've had seeping wounds as well, but waited until it wasn't seeping anymore to put on Lansinoh. It's consistency doesn't feel like it would spread well over anything moist because it's so emollient. And I don't take birth control, but can imagine how frustrating and difficult getting the hormonal breakouts must be. I wish you luck dealing with that, just try to remember that a pimple goes away faster than scabs and scars! But puracyn? I've never heard of it, is it one of those liquid bandaid products? I've heard a bit about those, but didn't look too much into it. I'll have to check that one out! Also, I would pick over my scabs and scars out of frustration from picking in the first place, it's like a horrible cycle that just gets worse. That feeling like you'll never gain control or be able to have clear skin again makes you feel so hopeless and makes it even harder. But after seeing my scabs and scars disappear so quickly, I got a huge dose of confidence and determination because I realized that it's not impossible and everyone else needs to realize that too! :D

It's not like liquid bandages as it doesn't stay on your face. This is going to sound strange, but it is "electrolized water" so you spray it on the wound and soak the bandages in it. It really has made a difference for me with the open wounds because it cleans them out really well. You should give it a try. It's $15 a bottle, but I think it's worth it! :)
