Looking for a buddy!
Hi everyone,
I'm a 20 year old girl and new to this site. I just joined because I've decided I want to try a new way of tackling my dermatillomania (which only seems to be getting worse).
I haven't told anyone about it (although my mum is aware I pick) because I'm embarrassed, and also I feel like that would make me more relaxed about doing it in front of them and less likely to stop.
I'm looking for a buddy who already picks and wants to stop, so that we both have a person to be accountable to. I feel like it'd be easier to be honest and get through it with someone else who's in the same situation.
We could contact each other through the day (especially at dangerous times) to remind each other not to pick, make ourselves accountable to each other and be there for general support. Hopefully we could watch each other progress together!
I don't mind age or gender, ideally it would be someone in the UK so we could text each other and be in the same timezone, but I'm sure we could work around that kind of thing.
Also, I don't know how we could privately exchange contact details on this site, but maybe those of you who've been here longer can help me out with that.

Hey MangoJuice. I need a buddy too! I'm 29, female, and live in Bermuda (not quite UK!). I got engaged last year and am getting married this winter. My fiancé knows I pick but no one else. I've been doing it my whole life, like since 9. It's time I get this under control! I've wanted to in the past but nothing's worked. Maybe the buddy system is the way to go? Ah, congratulations! Would be great if you could get this a bit more under control by the date of your wedding :)
I've had a look and our timezones are only 4 hours apart, so this should still be doable. Do you want to give this a try?

That would be wonderful! I just really want to stop this, I'm willing to try anything. Whatsapp is a good idea, just not sure how to go about contacting everyone - is there an admin who can help us maybe?

We could set up a an email address just to connect then cancel it? There doesn't seem to be a way to share privately on this site.

Coconut - good idea, does whatsapp use email addresses to connect? I've only ever used it with people's phone numbers, but if we can do the email thing that would be useful. It would also mean people who come to this group later can join the group too by doing the same.
or what about the app Kik? you only need to know someone's username for that, no phone numbers. you can also group chat through it :)
