Hypnosis

I'm going to a hypnotherapist tomorrow for my first session! I'm a little skeptical... but I guess I do act like a crazy person... so I think I'll take whatever form of help I can get! Has anyone tried going to a hypnotherapist in person yet? I have one appt tomorrow and then a followup (and maybe more) in a week. I'll let you all know how it goes!

i am very interested to learn about what your experience and results will be. i have upcoming meetings with my psychiatrist and a dermatologist and was going to bring this topic up. i am skeptical about talk therapy. i can't say talk therapy has helped me with any of my other life issues. heartfelt good luck!

i have tried talk therapy as well. it's helped with other issues in my life but not with this skin-picking issue. i started hypnotherapy two weeks ago and it has been surprisingly helpful. i think the most important thing is to go into it with an open mind. i did and i have been absolutely shocked by how deeply it's touched me and i have had immediate improvement! not cured but it's only been two weeks. good luck to you-- if you are open to it i believe it can help you heal.

I had my HYPNOTHERAPY appointment yesterday and it was amazing!!! We talked for over an hour first and talked about all my issues and all the many ways picking affects my life and confidence and everything. The hypnotherapy was incredible though! I left feeling absolutely amazing and I have so much love for myself, like I never have before. I can't even contemplate the idea of picking at myself right now. It's like the hypno guy somehow got it into my inner mind that I can't do things that are incompatible with the potential I believe I have. I can't even believe I feel this way because I was so skeptical! I am going back next Saturday for a longer session where he'll do regression therapy while I'm hypnotized because he says we need to find out exactly what happened in my life that triggered this for me. I'm interested because I have no idea what the actual trigger was for me 13 yrs ago. And he told me that talk therapy alone can't fix this (and I believe him I think after trying talk therapy numerous times!) because talk therapy just teaches you and has you analysing how to change yourself, but hypnotherapy gets right into your subconsious.... It was really really crazy being hypnotized too! You should all take a look into this please!! It was cheaper that talk therapy also! I can't believe I went to this, and I can't belive it's working! so glad to hear that you had a good experience with this! i have had great results as well and would encourage everyone to at least try it! there is definitely something about getting into your "deeper" mind in a way that talk therapy just doesn't... fascinating.

I'm inspired by all of the positive experiences with hypnotherapy. I did a 5 week session of hypnotherapy about a year ago and didn't notice a difference. I was very open to the idea because I was desperate to find something to help me stop picking. My first session totally freaked me out though. I woke up and felt very violated. I didn't know what happened in the 40 minutes that I was under hypnosis. I left the appointment feeling very uncomfortable. The next appointment I told the therapist of my experience and she offered to record the session so I could hear it. I helped to ease my discomfort but for the remaining sessions I don't think I totally engaged in the hypnotherapy. Kind of a bummer because I have heard good things about it and all of your comments confirm the reason I tried it in the first place. I also agree that talk therapy hasn't helped with my picking. It has helped me with some of my other compulsions though. Good Luck with the remainder of your treatments.

i've been going to hypnotherapy sessions for 2 months now as well as using a hypnosis download every day and i've had fantastic results. I'm also taking NAC every day. I'm not sure if the NAC has had an effect or not, hard to say when I started everything at once, but with the hypnosis I noticed immediate results, like the same day I had my session I felt better. I have not totally quit picking yet, but I would say that I have improved by 85-90%! The desire to pick and the obsession with picking has almost completely left me. I hope that someone else can benefit from this kind of treatment, just wanted to let everyone know.... :)

it's great to hear you feel you are benefiting from hypnotherapy! i was seriously thinking of going that route myself but i'm 22 days with no picking now on my own with basically replacing bad habits with good ones. if i fall off of this wagon and run into terrible times again, tho, i do think i'll consider hypnotherapy. what is the nac all about? and again, congrats on doing better! keep up the good work. :)

i am sticking to a regular regimen which i've outlined in a topic called commit to healthy practices and use rewards that i outlined in a topic called rewards for not picking and healed skin and i do a lot of positive self talk and massage my skin when my fingers go searching. i also sit on my hands while watching tv.
