Cured! I think
Hi everyone! I have been picking for 5 years now and I finally feel like I have stopped. I relapsed a few weeks ago but I feel like I have a lot more control and I don't feel the compulsion to stick my face in front of a mirror anymore. Have to admit though, if I get one of those super-ripe blackheads I will squeeze it haha. I just discovered this site and that dermatillomania is a thing, and I really want to share my tips and I hope I can help somebody. First of all, lemme share some superficial coverup and clear-skin tips that have helped me. I would be so lost without my concealer. Seems simple, but it really takes a practiced hand to make yourself look natural and not cakey. I highly recommend Almay clear complexion concealer because it contains 1% salicylic acid. Doesn't seem like much, but it really really helps dry up my scabs and help them flake away. BUT FIRST, you have to get good at applying it. I would suggest getting yourself a fresh, clean eyeshadow brush. Seems weird, but bear with me. Don't use the wand that comes with the concealer, because it makes too much product come off at once. Instead, take your brush and lightly touch it to the tip or side of the wand, whichever part will give you a tiny dab of concealer. Then dab it gently on your spot in a stippling motion, taking care that you don't get too much concealer outside of the actual blemish. NOTE: this does not work on "wet", picked blemishes. If you have one of those, best thing to do is to wait until it dries up, then apply concealer. The stippling motion should really get on the blemish and stick to it, since youre kinda pressing it on there. Don't do your whole face at once, because after you put on one bit of concealer, you want to wait 7-10 whole seconds, don't rush, then take your finger wrapped in a tissue and GENTLY blend into the surrounding area. You shouldn't have a lot of concealer, only a tiny tiny bit. It shouldn't rub off your pimple because it will have dried on, but sometimes this happens anyway. If this does happen, repeat and let it dry for a tiny bit longer. The thing I like about this method is that I find that the color really blends in to my (pasty) skin, and I don't need to wear foundation or powder. I would stay far, far away from powder anyway, cause even if you wear foundation underneath there is no way those little particles won't find a naked pore and clog it.
