Does the shower remind you and bring shame??

Does getting in the shower remind you of the picking you try to forget? It does for me..the hot water runs down my body and into my wounds and I can feel the stinging, burning . It reminds me of all the ravaging I've done to my skin. It's a CONSTANT reminder...

Getting in the shower is bad, but getting out is worse. When you see all the skin around your fingers going wrinkly, you're aware of just how much you bite/pick there, and for me it's terrible.

Yes the shower hurts like hell usually because I pick righr before the shower and it just burns when that water hits it. Its like a slap in the face a reminder of the pain I am causing myself. But it does not last long because after the shower I feel is my best time to pick all the small hairs out on my breasts and stomach as they come out so easy. Also the scabs just pull right off so I am trying to not look at them when I get out just dry off and get to bed since I take my shower at night.

I was just in the shower and thought about the exact same thing. The water filled up and I steped in and my scabs started to sting from the warm water (I have most of my scabs around both my ankles). I always think about it because it hurts and I know that Im damaging my skin. When Im in the shower the first few min Im always thinking about my picking problem, I try to think of new ways to help myself. Its hard to overcome.

It's torture.. feeling the hot water and shampoo sting the bloody sores on my scalp. It makes me realize just how bad it has gotten.

I feel the pain and I just take it knowing that its going to happen every time I step in the shower. Its a horrible habit and I hope to very very soon be gone of it.

I know exactly how you feel. I hate getting into the shower right after you've been picking. It burns and that pain is just a reminder if what you do and how much you hate it.

I figured almost every picker could relate to this...there is no escaping that reminder. Girl's can use all the make up they want. We can wear long pants in the Summer or long sleeves. We can do a million things to hide it but the pain in the shower is inevitable and maybe it's what we need....to be reminded. I still hate it...it's embarassing.

Another thing that always happens to me is I'll be about to get into the shower and I'll catch a glimps of my reflection in the mirror and see all the scabs that I could be picking at and just can't help it. I have to pick. So it's kind of a consequence, getting into the shower.

God yes. Going into the bathroom knowing I'll end up glued to the mirror and take forever to come out of there, and when I do my skin will be aching and red. And the comment about the "sinking feeling" above is spot on - it's just utter disappointment of "oh, I've just done it again", even if I steel myself before I go in and promise myself not to. When I'm at home for days at a time, I even try to not shower every day, or at least make it a time of the day when I'm feeling motivated and upbeat. If I go into that room feeling low, I know I'll only come out hating myself even more. Showers and mirrors and time alone wearing short sleeves - ugh.

I can't describe how much i can empathise with this. 'glued to the mirror', or else to looking down at my own body. I really love taking hot baths and showers, I find it relaxing, but what I dread is the knowledge that I will be standing in the bathroom naked and there's all the possibility in the world that I'll allow myself that one spot, or that one scab - and then 40 minutes later, I haven't even stepped in the bath yet, and all the improvement I've made over the past week or so has now been shot. The only thing i'd say is this - I'm totally no expert although having such a wierd relationship with my skin for this long has made me understand how my own works better than the average non-picker - of all the terrible things we do to our skin, having a soak or even a shower with good-quality products has got to be one of the best things we can do for it? I really understand we all have our own ways of going about what we do, but personally I never pick at my skin when it's already wet - the time before the bath or shower is the danger time for me. Afterwards I want to repair the damage ive done and take care of it. Perhaps I should take my own advice and get in the water asap rather than hanging around waiting for the shower to warm up and gravitating to the mirror in the meantime...

I have issues with showering in general (abuse history) but all the scabs and scars makes bathing even harder. People around me don't know how long I go between showers. The most I've been able to admit to someone in real life is one week without taking a shower or bath. In reality, once a week is when I'm doing really well, it's often two or three weeks. Thankfully I live by myself so I can make sure the door and windows are locked and the bathroom door is open (yeah, I know it's weird, but it's all part of my history). The drying off period at the end is prime time for picking, especially the bottom of my feet.

Bah I hate getting into the shower, or having to take my clothes off for any reason period. If I don't see any damage I certainly see things to pick at , and usually do.

Yes! i usually pick my right hand so usually i have to only use one hand in the shower and keep the worse one dry. If there both really bad then i just skip my shower that night and have it the next one. I am afraid of pain and i am sensitive to pain so i try not to get the injuries wet but sometimes you can't help and it HURT soooooooo much!! I thought showers were s posed to make you feel better- we learned that at school, but they don't especially with all the injuries. Good luck :)

The whole reason I pick is for the burn so I always jump into the shower after skin picking.
