Me too :( it's really upsetting because it makes the bottom of my hair thin and then it goes curly and my hair is straight and when I get it cut it doesn't even do anything

I too have been splitting my hair since I was 10 and I'm 53 years old. I have done it every which way from using tweezers, with the light shining on hair sitting in front of a mirror. I've used my nails to cause the hair to split for hours! The new one I do now is get a long hair and use my teeth to make the hair have splits while its still attached to my head. The most I've done to one hair without it breaking was 40 splits. It fasinates me and I also do it while laying in bed. I read all the comments and I believe I'm the queen of hair splitting. My husband tells me to stop, but I can't. My hair is lop-sided but I don't care. And, if I split my hair constantly, then the hairs hurt...they throb like their in pain. but it can't stop. Its nice to know there are others out here like me. Maybe knowing its not just me, and have others who can relate...maybe one of us can come up with something to help all of us stop. It's very time-consuming and really a waste of time and causes damage to our hair. Not to say the looks we get from others.

Reading these responses is absolutely crazy to me... I have peeled my split ends since I was 8, I remember it really well. I was in the car during a long road trip and I was just thinking about the term 'split end' and wondering if it really is what it sounds like, so I looked for one and it amazed me, and I was so fascinated when I peeled it in half... ever since then I've done it in many ways, whether it's running my thumbnail over it and shredding it and then peeling off all of the ends, picking out hairs that are really coarse and bumpy and looking at them and touching them, and peeling ends that already exist. I don't know why it gives me such great pleasure. I will literally do it for hours on end and it has made my hair so uneven. I'm really really embarrassed by it and I wish I didn't do it so badly. Today I made a promise to myself that I will stop for good and that is why I looked this up, thanks for sharing your stories. I wish I knew someone who does this personally so I wouldn't feel so alone sometimes..

I've been picking my split ends for years. I've tried cutting my hair short to stop, but ended up pulling split ends from the top and destroyed my hair. I've come to the conclusion I won't stop, so here are two things that have helped. First - hair back in a French braid or even a pony tail.. and hair spray it all. When it's sprayed, I can't pull out loose strands to pick at. Definitely helps. Second.. if my hair is down.. I bought some cheap real hair clip in extensions. When I feel the need, I clip one in and pull those split ends instead of my own. I realize it's not helping my quit, but at least I'm not destroying my own hair..
