scared!

I've been lurking on the site for a while now and finally decided to join. I can't take the pain and embarrassment anymore! Just got done squeezing and digging at what was probably a nonexistent acne cyst on my face. I know I need to stop doing this. The deep scars are embarrassing and I can't deal with another skin infection. Now I'm just icing my forehead down. Not much else i can do. Any tips on how to stop. I'm too embarrassed to tell the doctor I'm creating these infections myself. But I'm also tired of hiding. It's been a year from hell trying to hide this disorder. I need to stop!!

Most of the skin around the area wants to flake off. Put some ointment on it last night and this morning trying to keep it on. Looks way less pink now and no more swelling! Hands off is definitely the key! This is going to be last time i mess with anything on my face.

Doing much better today. Hoping within the next few days the pinkness on my chin fades. Got a little carried away with trying to pull off the dry skin. Just keep thinking if the skin would peel off the area would be completely healed. Have another patch of discolored flaky skin on the other side of my chin. Looks almost like a slight burn. Concluding that it is from my scented antibacterial hand soap in the bathroom. Put some antibiotic ointment on it once i peeled off some flakes of brown skin. Did put calamine lotion all over my chin. Not to help it heal of course...just so that i could see where the flaky skin was. Not going to do that anymore. Started trying to peel off more skin and gave up. I put lotion on my face and walked out of the bathroom. Nothing i can do will make it all disappear overnight. Done messing with my face. Enjoying watching tv shows with the kiddos tonight. Do have some calamine lotion on the area on my forehead that i messed with a couple of weeks ago. It is mainly so i won't look at it anymore. I finished up my antibiotics at lunch today. Know the infection is gone so there's nothing left for me to mess with. Just have to stop looking at myself and let the skin heal. Not as young as i used to be!

Hi....try not to be overzealous at this point, especially with any antibacterial washes. Good to hear much has improved! Enjoy the freedom ;-)

So did really good til i got home from work. Have kept an eye on one area on my chin that was staying red and swollen next to the original area. Could tell there was still pus in the area So i squeezed the hell out of it. No digging or tweezers tho. A bunch on pus came out if it. Not sure if it would have dried up by itself or not. Really hoping i didn't do much damage! Cleaned the area and put some calamine lotion on it to dry it up and hopefully reduce redness and swelling

If it's beside the primary sore, it's probable that it's still deep.

So ....just an update. Gave my chin a few squeezes last night. Finally sure there's nothing else left in there. More skin peeled off the area when i did it. Looked horrible this morning but the area looks way better tonight. Feels much better too. Wish i never would have touched it but can't keep beating myself up about it. Have left it alone for the most part tonight. Did put calamine lotion on it for a little while. Only put a little ointment on it. Leaving it alone is the best thing. So hard tho! I can do it i know i can.

Nope....you can't change what's been done, but i would think for most of us....we'd squeeze over leaving alone. What I would caution is how much scrubbing and cleaning and what you out on it afterward. Calamine is drying, so peeling will be a given.
Someone on another discussion thread mentioned Eucerin healing cream....maybe something to consider. I'm going to get it for dry hands and othtt skin maladies, bu I'll try it on my face as well. Use q-tips to remove enough and apply from there so no contamination since it's a jar and not squeeze tube.

Sounds like you're doing much better tho.

I always use qtips so i don't contaminate anything. No more calamine lotion either. Went to the dentist today. That's the worst thing to do with a dry scabby area on your chin. Almost called to reschedule but i went ahead and went. The scab came flaking off when i got home...grrr! Now it is bright red and irritated. Cleaned it off with some water and put some oil free lotion on it so itc wouldn't feel so dry! That stung really bad. Almost washed it off but let it soak in so the area won't be as inflamed i home. Sigh

Aside from the peeling and irritated skin, has the inflammation from the infection ceased?
I agree, dentist visits can be the worst with any sores on the chin area. I've cancelled in the past because of that. Hope you're not having to make a return visit.

There was a little more pus left in the area this morning. Squeezed way more than i should have...ugh! Trying to let the swelling go back down so i can go get groceries. Should have just let it be

Found one more little plug of pus in it. Got it out now Hoping it will finally heal. Tired of this mess on my face!

Would like to say i didn't do anymore messing with it but i did. Trying something different for now. Not going to put anything on it. Just going to leave the area alone and see how it looks. The fresh air outside feels really good on my chin. Think the majority of the swelling is going away. Still have a hole there but it's looking a little better. Looked way better this morning before i put my hands on it!

About to head to bed. Want to wake up with a completely healed chin but i know that's not possible. Am trying to stay positive. Did go get groceries today without makeup on my chin. Was rushing thru but made it without people staring. Had a great weekend with my boyfriend. That helps lift my spirits! Fingers crossed I don't look too bad tomorrow. The rest of my face looks awesome! I've just been putting oil free lotion on and leaving it alone. Amazing how great i feel when i can not touch or look at my face every five minutes

I can so understand the importance of one last plug and hope for the end!

Remember this one had a serious infection and will take time to heal. Hope today fared well on it fizzling out and showing favourable signs of proper healing.

Oh how we tread that fine line.... hang tough. I think you've done well.

Today the area is nice and scabby finally! There is no more swelling either. Hoping this is finally going to heal. Cleaned my chin with water when i got home from work and put some antifungal cream on the area. That's all. Nothing else for tonight. Can almost not feel the area either. That's a plus!

You're welcome. Regarding cleanser, maybe a mild one would at least clean it rather than just water.
Keep up the good progress!

Most of the scab came off today. It was so dry and crackly. It was mostly the area around the "hole" now there's just pink skin and a small divot that looks like it might scab again. Can move my chin now tho! So excited. This is definitely my last time messing with anything. I'm done picking!

Seems the last plug removal did the trick...:-)

What moisturiser do you use?

Hope all heals well.

There are products that contain glycolic acid.....can help to limit blocked pores.
